A Clue Saga

INT. BLACKWELL GRANGE - HALL - BEFORE DAWN
INSPECTOR WINFIELD BROWN lowers his head as two medical examiners carry a body past him in a black bag on a stretcher.
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY stops the medical examiners and says something to them. They give him a brief, quick answer. INSP. PRY says something else and one of the medical examiners shakes his head ’no’.
INSP. PRY walks back over to INSP. BROWN's side and sighs deeply.
It is overly apparent that INSP. PRY is annoyed and irritated.
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY
"I thought we were going to arrest Hugh Black and deal with the rest of this shit tomorrow. No! Someone went rogue and killed Hugh."
INSPECTOR WINFIELD BROWN
"What did you ask them? The examiners."
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY
"It's not important."
INSPECTOR WINFIELD BROWN
"Whatever it was, it upset you."
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY
(giving in)
"They still haven't found Frau Bloom or Miss Dove's bodies."
INSPECTOR WINFIELD BROWN
"We'll send bloodhounds at first light. The rain has stopped, at least. We'll have a better visual."
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY
"Are you going with them on their seaside vacation?"
2.
INSPECTOR WINFIELD BROWN
"We'll both be conducting one-on-one interrogations with the suspects there. I already rented a room."
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY
"You ride with them, then. I'm going to hold back and stay here with Amarillo."
INSPECTOR WINFIELD BROWN
"You don't trust him to be here alone?"
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY
"Do you?"
INSPECTOR WINFIELD BROWN
"No, but I don't think he's going to sabotage the case. I just think he's trying to get it wrapped up so he can go home."
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY
"Has the hotel sent drivers on the way, yet?"
INSPECTOR WINFIELD BROWN
"Valets and chauffeurs were called an hour ago. They should be nearly here. It's only an hour and a half to the beach from Pratton."
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY
"What's the name of this hotel?"
INSPECTOR WINFIELD BROWN
"Aquatine Vistas."
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY
"Jesus Christ, how much did that room set you back? Sounds expensive."
INSPECTOR WINFIELD BROWN
"Oh it is. I'm considering the hotel room and room service my vacation for this year."
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY
"God, I hate the beach. Sand gets everywhere..."
3.
INSPECTOR WINFIELD BROWN
"I'm rather fond of the beach. I requested an oceanside balcony view. I talked to the hotel manager personally - Miss Snow. I informed her of the upcoming investigation."
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY
"Did she offer anything useful?"
INSPECTOR WINFIELD BROWN
"She said for me to come see her after my suspects have settled in and she'll see about getting my into their rooms for random inspections."
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY
"I'll definitely swing by for that."
INSPECTOR WINFIELD BROWN
"You'll stay here for the most part?"
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY
"I just want to make sure things are being handled by the Pratton Police Department. Forest will accept any bribe he can. Did you see how shitty and ugly those walls were in his office? My God, the ceilings were piss-yellow. How many cigarettes have been smoked in that room?"
INSPECTOR WINFIELD BROWN
"I couldn't begin to estimate."
INSP. PRY shakes his head, looking up at the tops of the two sweeping grand staircases.
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY
"I'm going to get to know every inch of this place while those people are gone."
INSPECTOR WINFIELD BROWN
"Don't let your obsession with this house distract you from the reason we are here."
4.
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY
"Of course. I wouldn't want to slow down the investigation."
INSPECTOR WINFIELD BROWN
"You'll pop in regularly? Or at least call the hotel, right?"
INSP. PRY doesn't answer.
INSPECTOR WINFIELD BROWN
"We aren't communicating on this through Forest. I'll tell you that right now, Lawrence."
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY
"Look, I'm here because of Frau Bloom and Herr Gold. I'll be honest with you. These murders... This crowd weirds me out. I don't know if I want to wrap my brain around them. You know how I get when I get into too many people's heads at once."
INSPECTOR WINFIELD BROWN
"You chased a man from Germany to Japan and he killed himself when he found you. Hung himself from the rafters of an old, abandoned barn."
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY
"I don't want to have to chase these people from Paris to Rangoon."
INSP. PRY stops and looks at INSP. BROWN with serious eyes.
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY
"But I will if I have to."
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY
"Cornered rats have no other choice but to end it themselves or die at the hands of their captor."
INSPECTOR WINFIELD BROWN
"I don't want to see you go mad over this."
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY
"I'll help where I can, but those people... that's all on you."
5.
INSPECTOR WINFIELD BROWN
"Then I have certainly got my work cut out for me."
INSP. BROWN turns shakes INSP. PRY's hand firmly.
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY
"Good luck, Brown."
INSPECTOR WINFIELD BROWN
"Find out what you can from the locals about Bloom and Gold. Until I see a body, I don't trust that she's truly dead. The same goes for that fiancée."
MR. REGINALD ASH and MRS. BLANCHE WHITE carry armfuls of suitcases down the hall steps.
Over the next ten minutes, load by load, trip by trip, the hall begins to fill up with luggage like the a terminal of an airport or train station. Hat boxes, suitcases, duffle bags, backpacks, and purses are collected and grouped according to the guest.
MR. ASH opens the door to the small cloakroom beside the front door. He begins to distribute the coats to the suitcases which they belong to.
MRS. WHITE exits the hall to the conservatory.
INSP. BROWN observes the diligent, almost ritualistic way the butler carefully lays each coat over the top of a suitcase.
MR. REGINALD ASH
(motioning to the luggage)
"I take it you will be looking through these and everyone's clothes will be wrinkled?"
INSP. BROWN nods and motions for INSP. PRY to help him begin the baggage check. MR. ASH grips his fists in frustration.
MR. REGINALD ASH
"You could have told me instead of watching me lay everything out."
INSP. PRY snaps open a suitcase and dumps the contents directly onto the hall floor. He picks up each article of clothing one by one, stuffing them back into the suitcase after deeming if they pass his inspection.
6.
MR. THALLO GREEN comes down the stares with a big grin on his face.
MR. THALLo GREEN
"Search every last suitcase, boys. I want to see who stole my gun."
INSP. PRY stops searching the suitcases, stands up, and pulls out his notebook.
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY
(writing in his notebook)
"You have a missing gun?"
MR. THALLO GREEN
"Someone took it after dinner. Dreyse 1907. She's loaded."
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY
"How many people knew you had a gun?"
MR. THALLO GREEN
(narrowing his eyes)
"I'm Thallo freakin' Green. Everyone knows I'm armed or with someone who is armed."
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY
"I'm well aware of who you are, Mr. Green, I was being... fair."
MR. THALLO GREEN
(chuckling)
"You're that Interpol guy been poking around O'Range's Hotel past few months, aren't ya?"
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY
"Nice to officially meet you. I'll be sure to find your missing gun."
7.
SIR BENEDICT is wheeled from the ballroom by NURSE SILVER. FIVEL follows behind, sleepily rubbing his eye with his left hand.
NURSE SILVER's eyes are tire and droopy. SIR BENEDICT is eager to leave - his eyes keep finding their way to the front doors.
SIR BENEDICT BLACK IV
"Are we nearly ready to go?"
MR. REGINALD ASH
"They need to search our luggage first."
SIR BENEDICT BLACK IV
"Are you serious? Is that really necessary."
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY
(answering)
"It sure is. We don't have a murder weapon yet."
SIR BENEDICT BLACK IV
"How long until the chauffeurs get here?"
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY
"I haven't heard the doorbell, have you?"
SIR BENEDICT gives up and turns to NURSE SILVER.
SIR BENEDICT BLACK IV
"Take the boy out to the front. I want the two of you to wait until the cars come through the gates."
NURSE SILVER silently nods and takes FIVEL with her to the front door. She opens it and steps out onto the foggy, humid steps.
DR. ANDREA ORCHID sneaks quietly down the staircase without making a sound. She creeps along the wall past the billiard room door.
INSP. BROWN turns around and notices her as she approaches the library door.
8.
DR. ORCHID smiles pleasantly at INSP. BROWN - a big toothy grin.
DR. ANDREA ORCHID
(through her teeth)
"What are you doing with our luggage?"
INSPECTOR WINFIELD BROWN
"Checking the contents of these suitcases so that everyone can be on their way."
DR. ANDREA ORCHID
"The detective is bothering everyone upstairs. People are trying to grieve... a little sensitivity could surely go a long way."
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY
(coarsely)
"We are trying to solve a murder, ma'am."
DR. ANDREA ORCHID
(snarky)
"You two are playing security guards and looking through our belongings. Hoping to find something to put against us."
InSPECTOR WINFIELD BROWN
(shrugging)
"If you've got nothing to hide, then you've got nothing to worry about?"
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY
"Is this your suitcase?"
INSP. PRY looks down at the open suitcase in front of him. He holds up a light purple kimono with a black trim.
DR. ANDREA ORCHID
(narrowing her eyes)
"I have nothing to hide. Enjoy looking through my dresses and panties."
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY
"I didn't expect you'd wear frilly things. Is that what the teens like these days?"
9.
INSP. PRY holds up a skimpy piece of lingerie. DR. ORCHID calmly smiles at INSP. PRY. She blinks slowly as she talks.
DR. ANDREA ORCHID
(smiling)
"I'm so sorry, Lawrence. So sorry that you never got any closure after your son..."
INSP. PRY stares at DR. ORCHID, gripping her lingerie in his hands. It is clear that he is caught off guard.
DR. ANDREA ORCHID
(continuing to smile)
"It was very thoughtful and understanding for Interpol to give you your job back, even after your mental break."
INSP. PRY slowly puts the lingerie back down into the suitcase.
INSP. BROWN watches with sealed lips, trying his best to fade into the wallpaper.
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY
(growling softly)
"Careful..."
DR. ANDREA ORCHID
(continuing loudly)
"He was just a little boy after all. Anyone would have a metal break after getting pieces of their son in the mail. An arm. A foot. A thigh. His head."
(pausing)
"I could never imagine what it would be like to live in your world. To see his little face in that box every time I closed my eyes. Scared, dead, brown eyes looking up... It makes my stomach turn just thinking about it. God bless you, Lawrence."
INSP. PRY's eye twitches.
SIR BENEDICT BLACK IV
"I remember reading about that case."
INSP. PRY crosses the hall and climbs the stairs, turning the corner towards the gentlemen's bathroom.
10.
He nearly collides with MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK and MISS VIVIENNE SCARLET as the two ladies come down the staircase together.
MRS. PEACOCK leads MISS SCARLET over to the ottoman in the center of the room and the two women sit down.
DR. ORCHID tries to sneak off to the STUDY but is caught by INSP. BROWN.
INSPECTOR WINFIELD BROWN
"You best watch yourself, Andrea. Harassing Lawrence won't take the suspicion off of you. How do you know private matters about Interpol agents?"
DR. ANDREA ORCHID
"Lawrence Pry and Lawrence Lavender were close."
INSPECTOR WINFIELD BROWN
"You knew Lord Lavender."
DR. ANDREA ORCHID
"He took me in when no one else would. He was like a father to me."
INSPECTOR WINFIELD BROWN
"He told you everything."
DR. ORCHID nods.
DR. ANDREA ORCHID
"After he died, his bitch of a wife kicked me out. I've been making a life for myself ever since."
INSPECTOR WINFIELD BROWN
"And that life includes being the bride of John Boddy?"
DR. ANDREA ORCHID
"Does this count as my interrogation?"
INSPECTOR WINFIELD BROWN
"No."
DR. ORCHID places a finger to her lips and leans against the wall near the study door.
11.
INSPECTOR WINFIELD BROWN
"It's locked, don't even try."
MRS. PEACOCK looks over at SIR BENEDICT, who is staring intently at her. She glances over at her mourning stepdaughter and sighs.
MRS. PEACOCK stands up from the ottoman, abandons MISS SCARLET, and walks over to SIR BENEDICT.
MRS. PEACOCK stares at the old man's wrinkled face, unsure where to comfortably rest her eyes. She struggles to find the right words to say.
Finally, she takes a deep breath, holds it, and manages to say:
MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK
(very quickly; exhaling)
"I am so very sorry for your loss."
SIR BENEDICT BLACK IV
(distantly)
"I lost two sons today."
MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK
(struggling again)
"You... seem to be... taking it well."
SIR BENEDICT stares at her with a furrowed brow.
SIR BENEDICT BLACK IV
"One son killed the love of my life and left me alone in this world. The other son made me give up my own life for his freedom."
MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK
"You still have Rose."
SIR BENEDICT BLACK IV
"The cultist disappointment. If she isn't spouting off some ridiculous cryptic message about flames and thunderstorms, she's scamming innocent people out of their money over tarot readings and seances. I should have sent her straight back to the mad house when she escaped."
MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK
"I would give anything to love a child of my own.
12.
MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK (CONT'D)
You had four children and you didn't love any of them..."
SIR BENEDICT BLACK IV
"I loved Margaret. She never loved me."
MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK
"Margaret was a bitch. We both know that."
SIR BENEDCIT chuckles.
SIR BENEDICT BLACK IV
"I forgot, Margaret is the reason you met us and knew Hugh."
MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK
"I did a lot more than know Hugh."
SIR BENEDICT BLACK IV
"Margaret never should have gone to that show. You know she wasn't supposed to see you perform that night. It was my ticket."
MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK
(distantly)
"I know. You've told me this story before."
MONSIEUR ALPHONSE BRUNETTE makes his way down the right staircase.
MRS. PEACOCK watches him carefully. The look of disgust on her face urges him to stay away from her.
M. BRUNETTE stares at her the entire time as he passes by and approaches MISS SCARLET.
MRS. PEACOCK watches as M. BRUNETTE sympathetically puts a hand on her shoulder.
MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK
"Nope! Absolutely not."
MRS. PEACOCK starts off in the direction of the ottoman, but SIR BENEDICT grabs her by the wrist.
SIR BENEDICT BLACK IV
"What's the worst that can happen?"
13.
MRS. WHITE returns from the conservatory carrying a bird cage.
MRS. BLANCHE WHITE
"We couldn't forget about Wadsworth."
SIR BENEDICT BLACK IV
"That damned bird is still alive?"
MRS. PEACOCK notices SIR BENEDICT is distracted by MRS. WHITE and rushes over to the ottoman.
MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK
"Stay away from her."
MISS VIVIENNE SCARLET
(snapping at her)
"Patricia, stop it! He's fine! He was just offering his condolences."
MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK
"I know what he is trying to do!"
MISS VIVIENNE SCARLET
"Oh my god! You sound like a crazy person. Do you realize you sound like a crazy person right now? This is what I'm talking about when I tell you that you act like a crazy person."
MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK
"Which one is it, Vivienne? Do I sound like a crazy person or do I act like a crazy person?"
MONSIEUR ALPHONSE BRUNETTE
"Look, none of us have gotten any sleep."
MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK
"It's not about the sleep, Alphonse!"
MONSIEUR ALPHONSE BRUNETTE
"It very clearly is. Everyone is on edge."
MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK
"Stay away from us! Inspector!"
14.
MRS. PEACOCK holds up her hand and waves for INSP. BROWN.
INSP. BROWN looks up from the suitcase he is searching through.
INSPECTOR WINFIELD BROWN
(half paying attention)
"What is it?"
MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK
"Keep this man away from me and my stepdaughter."
INSPECTOR WINFIELD BROWN
"Noted."
MRS. PEACOCK sits down on the ottoman and crosses her arms.
MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK
"Go!"
M. BRUNETTE shrugs his shoulders and joins DR. ORCHID by the study door.
DR. ANDREA ORCHID
"It's locked."
MONSIEUR ALPHONSE BRUNETTE
"Oh, I don't need to get in there. I already did what I needed in there."
DR. ANDREA ORCHID
"Did you take a look at the will?"
MONSIEUR ALPHONSE BRUNETTE
"That's not going to be a problem for much longer."
DR. ANDREA ORCHID
"I'm no so sure we're on the same side, Monsieur."
MONSIEUR ALPHONSE BRUNETTE
"I want to see John Boddy in charge here just as badly as you do."
DR. ANDREA ORCHID
"Oh, really? Why is that?"
15.
MONSIEUR ALPHONSE BRUNETTE
(shrugging)
"It's easy to sell paintings and offer commissions to someone young with new-found money. Isn't that a good enough answer?"
DR. ANDREA ORCHID
"It is a good answer. But I know there is more to it than that."
MONSIEUR ALPHONSE BRUNETTE
"When you figure it out, get back to me about it."
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD and PROFESSOR VICTOR PLUM reach the top of the stairs and look down upon the suitcases below. INSP. BROWN searches alone, nearly finished with one-third of the luggage.
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD
"Bloody hell."
PROFESSOR VICTOR PLUM
"Careful with my bags! I packed some fragile books..."
PROF. PLUM's words fall short as he sees his open suitcase and the bend pages of a book sitting haphazardly on a wrinkled black vest.
PROFESSOR VICTOR PLUM
"You've made a mess of everything..."
INSP. PRY reappears at the top of the staircase.
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY
"One of you made a mess of a lot of people. Your possessions mean nothing to me."
INSP. PRY resumes in searching PROF. PLUM's suitcase. He pulls out a board game box. A nasty smirk comes over INSP. PRY's lips.
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY
"Nice game you have here."
PROFESSOR VICTOR PLUM
"It's vintage."
16.
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY
"Chess."
INSP. PRY opens the game. The entire chess set is immaculate - jade and ivory oriental soldiers.
INSP. PRY picks up a fragile ivory tower with small carved flags.
INSP. PRY drops it on the hall floor in front of PROF. PLUM. It breaks easily.
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY
"Back up and stand against the wall until we are done searching through your shit."
PROF. PLUM bites down hard, swallowing loudly.
PROFESSOR VICTOR PLUM
(voice breaking)
"You're an ass."
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY
"Okay."
INSP. PRY puts the rest of the chess set away unscathed. He pulls out a variety of bowties and then a small wooden box.
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY
"Am I going to like what I find in here?"
PROF. PLUM's face turns red.
PROFESSOR VICTOR PLUM
"No."
INSP. PRY opens the wooden box and pulls out a vial of morphine and a syringe.
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY
"Do you have a license to practice medicine?"
Before PROF. PLUM has a chance to enter, the front door slams open. NURSE SILVER and FIVEL can be see in shock on the front steps as-
DETECTIVE LOUIS AMARILLO enters the mansion dragging HERR KLAUS GOLD by the collar of his shirt. He tosses the man to the floor at the threshold.
17.
DETECTIVE LOUIS AMARILLO
(out of breath)
"Found him drunk and passed out in the hay loft."
HERR GOLD groans, looking around the hall with wide, alert eyes.
EXT. BLACKwell grange - front door - conTINUOUS
NURSE SILVER and FIVEL watch the foggy front gates as the night sky begins to lighten up.
FIVEL scratches at the bandage on his scraped leg.
FIVEL
"That was the man I saw."
NURSE AVA SILVER
(point into the house)
"From the other night?"
FIVEL nods, tears streaming down his face.
FIVEL
"Did he kill my mom?"
NURSE AVA SILVER
"I don't know, Fivel."
NURSE SILVER draws the boy in for a hug, kissing him on the top of the head.
FIVEL
"What's going to happen to me now? I don't have any family..."
NURSE AVA SILVER
"What about your father?"
FIVEL shrugs his shoulders.
NURSE AVA SILVER
"Grandparents?"
FIVEL
"No."
FIVEL tenses up.
18.
FIVEL
(crying)
"I don't want to go to an orphanage. I can't live in a place like that. Please! I can't!"
NURSE SILVER holds him tightly, hushing him and rubbing her hand in a circle on his back.
NURSE AVA SILVER
(soothingly)
"I won't let that happen to you."
INT. BLACKWELL GRANGE - HALL - CONTINUOUS
INSP. PRY stands HERR GOLD up to his feet and pulls his hands behind his back.
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY
"You are a wanted man, Herr Gold. You are illegally in this country on an expired passport..."
HERR KLAUS GOLD
"It doesn't matter, I did my part."
HERR GOLD laughs maniacally, pointing at COL. MUSTARD.
HERR KLAUS GOLD
"The pictures. Seeing those women murdered... it drove someone to kill Hugh."
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY
"Klaus Gold, you are under arrest."
INSP. PRY leads HERR GOLD out to the courtyard as headlights begin to flood the driveway.
NURSE AVA SILVER
(calling out)
"They're here."
SIR BENEDICT BLACK IV
"Took them long enough."
INSP. BROWN looks over the last few unopened suitcases and sighs.
19.
DR. WALTER RAVEN, MISS OLIVIA RAVEN, MADAME ROSE BLACK, and MASTER JOHN BODDY stand at the top of the hall stairs looking down upon everyone else.
MASTER JOHN BODDY
"Next time we are in this mansion it will be mine."
DR. WALTER RAVEN
"God willing."
MME ROSE turns off the upstairs hall lights, darkening the second floor of Blackwell Grange.
MISS OLIVIA RAVEN
(looking behind her)
"Can we just leave already?"
MISS RAVEN anxiously begins to make her way down the staircase away from the dark, endless corridors.
MADAME ROSE BLACK
(quietly; to Boddy)
"Be wary of her."
MASTER JOHN BODDY
"Miss Raven?"
MME ROSE points to DR. ORCHID.
MASTER JOHN BODDY
(rolling his eyes)
"Not you too..."
MADAME ROSE BLACK
"John, if you put a baby in her, you'll never get rid of her. You'll give her an heir to all of this."
MASTER JOHN BODDY
"I love her."
MADAME ROSE BLACK
"John..."
MASTER JOHN BODDY
(repeating with attitude)
"Aunt Rose?"
MADAME ROSE BLACK
"I will not allow you to become a father. Not with her."
20.
MASTER JOHN BODDY
"Look, Aunt Rose, I've always liked you. Ever since I was a kid, I always gave you a chance when the rest of the family had nothing to say to you. Maybe I'm getting too old, or maybe you just aren't as fun as you used to be."
(pauses; shrugs)
"I don't like being told what to do. Especially by family members that don't actually have any authority over me."
MADAME ROSE BLACK
"I am your aunt."
MASTER JOHN BODDY
"Yes, but you are the aunt I saw two, maybe three times a year. Uncle Hugh lived in the house with me from birth until boarding schooling. He was a second father to me. Sir Benedict was there till I was eleven. I respect his wishes, and he has told me that you are banished from Blackwell Grange. He isn't even paying for you to stay at the hotel."
MADAME ROSE BLACK
"Then where am I to stay?"
MASTER JOHN BODDY
"That's really not my problem, is it?"
INSP. BRONW stomps his foot loudly against the hall floor and brings his finger to his lips. He whistles loudly.
The chatter in the hall falls silent.
INSPECTOR WINFIELD BROWN
"Your rides to Aquatine Vistas are here. You will be in charge of figuring out who will sit with who."
(clearing his throat)
"Tonight has been very bizarre. Unorthodox. I don't much care to use foul, vulgar language much myself unless it is necessary. But I feel tonight is one of those nights..."
21.
INSPECTOR WINFIELD BROWN (CONT'D)
(pausing)
"Whoever killed Hugh Black will hang by their neck until they die. I will watch the life drain from your eyes. You are fucked up. What happened here tonight... fucked up. I can't stand what I saw outside in that tennis court."
MISS SCARLET whimpers.
INSPECTOR WINFIELD BROWN
(clearing his throat)
"I am sorry, my dear."
(sighing)
"What I am trying to say... What I need to say... The killer and every criminal in this house will face their sins. The time for hiding is done. Mr. Green, you will be hearing from us soon regarding your employment with Jasper Import."
MR. THALLO GREEN
(shrugging)
"You can talk with my lawyer about that. I'm busy. There's a whole murder investigation I have to deal with."
INSPECTOR WINFIELD BROWN
"If you refuse to cooperate..."
MR. THALLO GREEN
"One case at a time, Inspector."
INSPECTOR WINFIELD BROWN
(turning away from Green)
"Mrs. Peacock, you will want to contact your lawyer as soon as possible. You have gotten yourself messed up in the murder of a former lover during an ongoing investigation into the deaths of your five husbands. Six murders happened here tonight, Mrs. Peacock. I'm going to honest with you... this is not going to look good. You are pretty much done in the eyes of the public."
MRS. PEACOCK looks down at the floor.
22.
MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK
"Thank you for your frankness, Inspector."
INSPECTOR WINFIELD BROWN
(nodding)
"Alright."
(pausing)
"Professor Plum, regarding what experimentation and medicinal practices you performed here..."
SIR BENEDICT BLACK IV
(interrupting)
"Anything Victor did was under the threat of Hugh."
INSPECTOR WINFIELD BROWN
"Professor?"
PROFESSOR VICTOR PLUM
"Everything I did was out of fear for my own life. I'm a good man. I wouldn't harm a fly. I couldn't even kill a fifth of bourbon."
EXT. BLACKWELL GRANGE - COURTYARD - a few minutes later
INSP. BROWN, INSP. PRY, and DET. AMARILLO watch the cars circle around the driveway.
INSPECTOR WINFIELD BROWN
"As soon as the result of the post mortem come back, find the murder weapon."
DETECTIVE LOUIS AMARILLO
"Isn't it pretty obvious he was hit with that wrench?"
INSPECTOR WINFIELD BROWN
"Nothing is obvious about anything that happened here. I have a weird feeling about this case..."
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY
(mumbling to himself)
"That's why I don't want to get into their heads..."
23.
SIR BENEDICT, MASTER BODDY, and DR. ORCHID step into a limousine together.
INSP. PRY watches as MR. ASH folds up the wheelchair and puts it into the trunk. MR. ASH does not get into the limousine, but instead joins in the crowd waiting to leave.
INSPECTOR WINFIELD BROWN
"Do you suppose Herr Gold knows more than he's leading on?"
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY
"I'll have a talk with him in a few hours after I have this place all to myself."
M. BRUNETTE, MR. GREEN, MRS. WHITE, and SGT. GRAY step into a limousine together. MRS. WHITE is carrying WADSWORTH's bird cage.
DETECTIVE LOUIS AMARILLO
"I'm going back to the station to talk to Forest. Our call got disconnected earlier."
DET. AMARILLO heads to the police cruiser he drove here.
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY
"How are you getting to the hotel?"
INSPECTOR WINFIELD BROWN
"I called a local cab."
INSPECTOR LAWRENCE PRY
"This little vacation is going to cost you a fortune."
INSPECTOR WINFIELD BROWN
"I hope that's all it costs me."
COL. MUSTARD, MR. ASH, NURSE SILVER, and FIVEL all step into a limousine together.
INSP. PRY nods to INSP. BROWN with a smile as the two men part ways. INSP. PRY enters the dark, shadowy entrance of Blackwell Grange like a ghost haunting the halls.
24.
INSP. BROWN sits down on the front steps and sighs. He watches the last two suspects approach the last limousine.
MISS SCARLET and MRS. PEACOCK hesitantly walk towards the limousine.
The chauffeur exits the car and walks around to the back door. He opens it and politely offers a hand to MRS. PEACOCK.
She takes it and begins to sit down in the limousine, when she notices MISS SCARLET has stopped cold in her tracks five feet away from the car.
MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK
"Vivienne?"
MISS VIVIENNE SCARLET
"I..."
MISS SCARLET looks back at Blackwell Grange.
MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK
"We have to go, Vivienne."
MISS SCARLET can't take her eyes off of the tall façade of Blackwell Grange.
The chauffeur walks over to her.
CHAUFFEUR
"Hey, miss."
MISS SCARLET snaps out of the trance-like pull Blackwell Grange has on her and turns to the handsome young chauffeur.
GREYSON
"My name is Greyson. They told us a little about what happened at the hotel before we left. I am so sorry if you lost someone. It's going to be alright, miss. Let's get out of here..."
