A Clue Saga

INT. BLACKWELL GRANGE - KITCHEN - NIGHT
MR. REGINALD ASH polishes a CANDLESTICK while leaning sleepily over the wooden table in the center of the room. His jaw is gripped as tightly as his hold on the CANDLESTICK.
He yawns deeply, closing eyes puffy, watery eyes. FRAU OLGA BLOOM enters the KITCHEN through the adjacent DINING ROOM door.
FRAU OLGA BLOOM
"The black lace china is in the corner hutch."
MR. REGINALD ASH
"Thank you, Frau Bloom. You may retire for the night."
2.
FRAU BLOOM pulls a half-smoked cigar from her apron pocket and lights it on her way out the backdoor.
MR. ASH leaves the CANDLESTICK on the table and walks towards the HALL door. He takes one last look at the empty KITCHEN before turning off the lights.
INT. BLACKWELL GRANGE - HALL - CONTINUOUS
MR. ASH walks down the length of the long, tall room towards the front doors: two large oak doors with stain glass windows near the top. He checks to make sure they are locked.
To MR. ASH's surprise the left door is unlocked.
MR. ASH looks around the dark, silent HALL before taking the key-ring from his pocket and locking the front door.
MR. ASH turns to the LIBRARY door and presses his ear against the door. He can hear DR. BLACK talking to MISS DOVE.
INT. BLACKWELL GRANGE - LIBRARY - CONTINUOUS
DR. HUGH BLACK walks around the red chaise lounge, where MISS BRENDA DOVE sits. He hands her a glass of brandy.
MISS BRENDA DOVE
(sipping the brandy)
"It's not a big deal. I know I'm going to have to tell other people about Fivel's conception. You're more worried about it than I am."
DR. HUGH BLACK
(frustrated)
"I don't want anyone to think they can just walk up to you and ask any insensitive question that comes to mind."
3.
MISS BRENDA DOVE
(pausing)
"You haven't shown me the guest list yet... is there a reason you've been so secretive?"
DR. HUGH BLACK
(sighing)
"Alright."
DR. BLACK walks behind the large mahogany desk on the south wall. The desk has a large Tiffany lamp, golden perfume bottles, vintage books, a chessboard, and a marble STATUETTE of Benedict Black the First in his youth.
DR. BLACK opens a drawer in the front of the desk and pulls out a folded piece of paper.
DR. BLACK unfolds the paper and sets it on the chaise lounge beside his fiancée.
MISS DOVE finishes the brandy quickly and picks up the paper. She scans the list before starting at the top.
MISS BRENDA DOVE
"Miss Vivienne Scarlet."
DR. HUGH BLACK
(quickly)
"A promising singer. Stepdaughter of a... friend."
MISS BRENDA DOVE
(reading the next name)
"Edward Clay - Tennis."
DR. HUGH BLACK
"Miss Scarlet's lover. Promising talent around those two - in both the arts and athletics."
MISS BRENDA DOVE
"Dr. Raven and his daughter..."
4.
MISS DOVE lowers the paper and glares at DR. BLACK with irritation.
MISS BRENDA DOVE
"That's a funny way of listing your ex-wife on the guest list. I'm starting to wonder if Miss Scarlet is more than a singer."
DR. HUGH BLACK
(defensively)
"There are only two people on that list that I was in a relationship with. Miss Raven, and Miss Scarlet's stepmother. They were both twenty years ago when we were much younger."
MISS BRENDA DOVE
(scanning the list)
"Mrs. Peacock is the only other female name on the list, is she the stepmother?"
DR. HUGH BLACK
"It was so long ago. You really have nothing to stress about."
MISS BRENDA DOVE
"Then why was the guest list such a secret?"
DR. HUGH BLACK
"Because it didn't matter. Jesus, Brenda! Those feelings are irrelevant today. I was an immature twenty-some brat. Don't judge me for the friendships I complicated with sex."
MISS BRENDA DOVE
"If it truly doesn't matter, then why are romantic conquests from twenty years ago coming to our engagement party?"
DR. HUGH BLACK
"I just told you, they are my friends."
MISS BRENDA DOVE
"You can't just go back to being friends. Well... maybe you can.
5.
MISS BRENDA DOVE (CONT'D)
But I highly doubt Miss Raven and Mrs. Peacock..."
DR. HUGH BLACK
(interrupting her)
"Dr. Raven is a shareholder. I invite him out of respect. If his daughter chooses to come along, so be it. Senator Peacock funded Black Pharmaceuticals for many years before my former lover married him. All invitations to her have been because of him. She wrote to me a few times trying to renew our friendship. Under those terms, I have been trying to include her. Similar to the same way I include Mike and my sister Rose."
MISS BRENDA DOVE
"So they've both been able to remain platonic?"
DR. HUGH BLACK
(hesitantly)
"Miss Raven tends to cause some waves..."
MISS BRENDA DOVE
"And Mrs. Peacock?"
DR. HUGH BLACK
(even more hesitantly)
"This is the first time we'll be seeing each other in twenty years."
MISS BRENDA DOVE
(slowly growing angrier)
"So she hasn't accepted an invitation in the past? And now she's accepted this one? The invitation to your engagement party? Don't you see? She's jealous of me."
DR. HUGH BLACK
(defusing her)
"That is highly unlikely. She moved on from me rather quickly with one of my colleagues, James Scarlet. You'll recognize his daughter's name."
6.
MISS BRENDA DOVE
(softly)
"Yes, the singer."
DR. HUGH BLACK
"She went on to marry five other men. There were probably countless lovers in between. The only reason she accepted the invitation now is that she was likely pressured into it by Miss Scarlet and Mr. Clay, seeing as they are two members of her household."
MISS BRENDA DOVE
"Is that what you think happened? Or is that what you planned to happen?"
DR. HUGH BLACK
(ignoring her bait)
"Are you done with the guest list? Do you have any other concerns?"
MISS BRENDA DOVE
"At the bottom of the list, you have Mr. G and A.B. Why aren't their names written fully?"
DR. BLACK pours himself a full glass of brandy and sits down on the high-back armchair. He drinks nearly all of it in one go.
DR. HUGH BLACK
"Business friends."
MISS BRENDA DOVE
(annoyed)
"So illegal stuff?"
DR. BLACK doesn't respond. He stares at the remaining brandy in the glass, holding it up to the light.
MISS BRENDA DOVE
"I'm not going to pretend to understand everything it is you do and everything your family considers acceptable, but I want you to answer me when I ask you something."
DR. HUGH BLACK
"What?"
7.
MISS BRENDA DOVE
"Who are Mr. G and A.B.?"
DR. HUGH BLACK
"Thallo Green and Alphonse Brunette. Happy?"
MISS DOVE reacts to the names. Her legs feel like butter and her chest sinks, growing cold, while her face burns hot.
MISS BRENDA DOVE
"And they'll both be here all weekend?"
DR. HUGH BLACK
"I'm feeling tired. Perhaps you should retire to your private chambers?"
MISS BRENDA DOVE
"I don't like it when you keep secrets from me."
DR. HUGH BLACK
(emptying the glass)
"I don't like being lied to."
MISS DOVE is silent. She slowly stands up from the chaise lounge and walks over to the LIBRARY door. She pauses in the doorway for a moment.
MISS BRENDA DOVE
(with pain in her voice)
"You love me... Fivel... You love us, don't you?"
DR. HUGH BLACK
(flatly)
"I wouldn't be marrying you if I didn't."
EXT. BLACKWELL GRANGE - FAMILY CRYPT - midnight
PROFESSOR VICTOR PLUM pulls a key from his pocket and unlocks the padlock. The thick, black chains wrapped around the entire building fall to the base of the structure with a loud
CLANK
8.
PROF. PLUM looks around at the back of BLACKWELL GRANGE and the ROSE GARDEN. The coast is clear.
INT. BLACKWELL GRANGE - FAMILY CRYPT - CONTINUOUS
PROF. PLUM walks down the wide stone steps to the subterranean levels of the estate using the dim glow of a glow flip-lighter.
PROF. PLUM reaches the bottom of the staircase and steps into the main room of the CRYPT.
Five stone coffins are lined up in the middle of the space. On the top of each coffin is engraved "Benedict Black" with a Roman Numeral I-V indicating who is who. The walls around the room are either fitting with shelved coffins or niche urns.
PROF. PLUM approaches the stone coffin in the center with "Benedict Black IV" engraved onto the top.
PROFESSOR VICTOR PLUM
"Hello, father."
(pause)
"I always wished we could have spent more time together. The past has a way of killing us, doesn't it? If anyone caught wind of what I do down here... I'd probably slit my own throat before the police made it down the steps."
(pause)
"Hugh has given up faith that Ben can be cured. I still believe in your vision. I still read the notes. I'm so close to correcting the irregularities. Your son... my poor brother... Our Ben could be sitting behind the desk in the Study by Christmas... if only you could be here to see it."
PROF. PLUM feels tears creep into his eyes. He sniffles and wipes them away.
9.
PROFESSOR VICTOR PLUM
(clearing his throat)
"Time to pick up where we left off."
PROF. PLUM turns to the coffin with "Benedict Black V" engraved onto the top. He moves to the side and begins to slide off the heavy, stone lid.
Inside the coffin, BEN BLACK V (60) stares up at PROF. PLUM. His skin is bone white. His mouth is gagged tightly so that he can only breathe through his snotting, bubbling nose. He is wearing a straight jacket with long sleeves bound tightly around his torso - reinforced by a ROPE. The once-white fabric interior of the coffin is stained yellow, brown, and red.
PROFESSOR VICTOR PLUM
"Dear brother, today we embark on a journey that will take you closer to peace."
BEN BLACK moans and screams from behind his gag.
PROFESSOR VICTOR PLUM
"The world thinks you are a homicidal maniac. I know you aren't and one day they will know that too. I have a little treat for you."
PROF. PLUM pulls the gag from BEN BLACK's mouth.
BEN BLACK
"Please, stop. Please, no more."
PROFESSOR VICTOR PLUM
"No more electricity. We aren't going to be putting you through that."
BEN BLACK starts crying from this small relief of good news.
10.
BEN BLACK
"Can I be free?"
PROFESSOR VICTOR PLUM
"Almost. I have a friend coming to visit me tomorrow evening. He's going to bring me a special type of medicine that you can't get anywhere."
BEN BLACK
"Will it make me normal? Will I be better?"
PROFESSOR VICTOR PLUM
"Do you remember the medicine that I was working on, Ben?"
BEN BLACK starts lashing around and moaning.
BEN BLACK
"No! No! No! No! No!"
PROF. PLUM shushes him.
PROFESSOR VICTOR PLUM
"Ben, my medicine is too strong on its own. Let's see, how did I put it..."
PROF. PLUM fumbles to get his notebook from his pocket. He licks his finger and flips around until he finds the right page.
PROFESSOR VICTOR PLUM
"It courses through the veins like fire. After ten minutes, paralysis - yet full consciousness and the ability to feel pain.
PROF. PLUM slams the book closed, startling BEN BLACK.
PROFESSOR VICTOR PLUM
"This new medicine, mixed with the right amounts of my medicine, will allow me to conduct brain surgery on you while also keeping you conscious. This alone could mean more than just success for you. The medical world as a whole could be changed..."
BEN BLACK
"What if I die?"
11.
PROFESSOR VICTOR PLUM
"Then we've all wasted our lives for nothing. Father spared you from being executed as a child. He spared this family the public humiliation of having a child-murderer... Everything was perfect..."
BEN BLACK
"Please. I want to be free."
PROFESSOR VICTOR PLUM
"This disease you have - this desire to kill. It isn't your fault. No one blames you for the irregularities in your brain."
BEN BLACK
"I just like watching the blood drain..."
PROFESSOR VICTOR PLUM
(sighing)
"I know. But you aren't supposed to."
BEN BLACK
"My arms hurt. Please, just let me be free."
PROFESSOR VICTOR PLUM
"You'll get to stretch tomorrow before surgery. I just wanted to talk to you today."
BEN BLACK
"Hugh doesn't see me anymore."
PROFESSOR VICTOR PLUM
(distantly)
"I know."
BEN BLACK
"He wants to kill me."
PROFESSOR VICTOR PLUM
"He's just tired of waiting for you to get better. Once you are reborn, he'll accept you with open arms."
BEN BLACK
"When?"
12.
PROFESSOR VICTOR PLUM
(optimistically)
"Dear brother, I'll have you ready to start living your life by Christmas."
BEN BLACK
"You promise?"
PROFESSOR VICTOR PLUM
"Every day we journey closer and closer to the day that will bring you peace. And now that day is in clear sight."
INT. BLACKWELL GRANGE - BILLIARD ROOM - CONTINUOUS
NURSE AVA SILVER is sitting at the bar with a glass of vodka in her hand. MR. ASH is exhausted and drunk, holding the half-empty bottle from behind the bar.
MR. REGINALD ASH
"... they're arguing about the guest list. They'll be at it till he gets bored and sends her off to bed."
NURSE AVA SILVER
"I can't do this anymore, Reggie."
NURSE SILVER drinks the vodka. MR. ASH sets the bottle down on the bar and comes around to her. He sits down on the bar stool beside her.
MR. REGINALD ASH
(hiccuping)
"When my wife left, Dr. Black told me that I needed to distract myself with work."

13.
MR. REGINALD ASH (CONT'D)
"When I found out my wife was taken against her will, Dr. Black told me I needed to distract myself with work while he and his people figured out how to bring her back."
(voice breaking)
"When I found out she was being brainwashed to love someone else and forget about me, Dr. Black told me I needed to distract myself with work because there was nothing he could do."
NURSE SILVER hugs him tightly, crying into his shoulder.
NURSE AVA SILVER
(sniffling)
"When I found out I was pregnant... I didn't know what to do but I knew I was going to be a good mother. But Dr. Black forced me to give him away. He forced me to give up my freedom and work in that Crypt... Colonel Mustard was the only one I had to talk to for years."
MR. REGINALD ASH
"Mrs. White and I always knew..."
NURSE AVA SILVER
"But at the time I didn't know that. Besides, no amount of comfort is going to help me. My world is upside-down for the same reason yours is. I can't help but wonder what type of parent I would have made."
MR. REGINALD ASH
"I just miss Mabel so much... I can't sleep. I haven't heard anything in weeks. Brunette is going to be at the party, but I don't know if he has any news."
NURSE SILVER pours herself more vodka.
NURSE AVA SILVER
"Not knowing is the worst."
MR. REGINALD ASH
"Does she still love me, does she remember me? Is she brainwashed fully? How do I save her?
14.
MR. REGINALD ASH (CONT'D)
How do I bring my wife back home? What is happening to her right now at this very moment?"
NURSE SILVER hands the bottle to MR. ASH. He brings it to his lips, crying and moaning in sorrow.
NURSE AVA SILVER
"I'm so sorry, Reggie."
MR. REGINALD ASH
"How can I ever sleep in peace when she isn't by my side."
NURSE AVA SILVER
"This place..."
NURSE SILVER looks around the BILLIARD ROOM.
NURSE AVA SILVER
"It's one of the only rooms Dr. Black doesn't frequent unless there are guests over. It used to be the only room I could come to and escape from the past... but now this room only serves as a reminder of every tear I've shed in here, hiding from him."
MR. REGINALD ASH
"Do you believe in second chances, Ava?"
NURSE AVA SILVER
"If you are asking: do I think you will be reunited with Mabel and I'll be reunited with my child? No. I'm sorry, but I don't. It's been ten years for you and almost that long for me. Dr. Black always says that not all questions get answers. 'We may look for answers, but we don't always find them.'"
MR. ASH sighs and looks down at the floor.
MR. REGINALD ASH
"Dr. Black only started saying that because that is exactly what his father told him after Margaret and Samuel disappeared on safari."
NURSE AVA SILVER
"I'm not ready for this weekend."
15.
MR. REGINALD ASH
"I'm not sure any of us are; Dr. Black included."
INT. BLACKWELL GRANGE - PINK BEDROOM - CONTINUOUS
Cardboard boxes have been brought down from the ATTIC and placed around the room and on top of the bed. There is a vanity with a covered up mirror near the bed. A moth-eaten armchair is illuminated in the corner by a round banquet lamp. The harsh orange glow of the lamp is the only source of light in the bedroom.
MADAME ROSE BLACK stands at the window in her bedroom. She places her palm on the glass windowpane and closes her eyes.
MADAME ROSE BLACK
(whispering)
"You're still alive. I thought as much. I bet they're keeping you in the attic."
MME ROSE opens her eyes and looks around her room quickly. She rushes over to a cardboard box and opens it up. She draws a long, oriental DAGGER out of its sheath.
MME ROSE holds the blade up to the ceiling in a ceremonial/ritualistic fashion. She closes her eyes and returns to the window. She places one palm against the glass, while the other grasps the DAGGER tightly.
MADAME ROSE BLACK
"Show yourself to me."
16.
MME ROSE opens her eyes and looks out at the darkness outside her bedroom window. She sees something and leans in closer. She narrows her eyes trying to get a closer look at whatever is outside her window on the second floor of Blackwell Grange.
MME ROSE leaps back screaming and pointing the DAGGER at the window. Chills run down her spine as the lamp flickers.
MADAME ROSE BLACK
"Spirits of the east, voices in the night, protect me from the evil outside. Protect me from death."
There is sudden knocking on the door and MRS. WHITE's voice on the other side.
MRS. BLANCHE WHITE
"Rose! Rose! Are you alright?"
MADAME ROSE BLACK
(still screaming)
"Evil is here!"
MRS. WHITE rushes into the room and crouches down to the frightened woman on the floor.
MME ROSE is still pointing the DAGGER at the window. MRS. WHITE looks out the dark window and quickly pulls the curtains closed.
MRS. BLANCHE WHITE
"What was it? Did you see something? A vision?"
MADAME ROSE BLACK
(still shaking)
"He was out there!"
MRS. BLANCHE WHITE
"Who?"
17.
MADAME ROSE BLACK
"Death. On his pale white horse. Our heads piked behind him."
MRS. BLANCHE WHITE
"Who's heads?"
MADAME ROSE BLACK
"All of ours. Yours, mine... Mr. Ash, Yvette, Dr. Black, Colonel Mustard... Death is coming for us. He was grinning. He isn't going to wait much longer."
MRS. BLANCHE WHITE
"You haven't been smoking opium, haven't you?"
MADAME ROSE BLACK
"Mrs. White, I saw death and he is here to collect. We've lied about death so many times... it was only a matter of time."
MRS. BLANCHE WHITE
"Dear, you need to get some rest. Go ahead and rest. I'll have Yvette bring you up barley water."
MRS. WHITE begins to move boxes off of MME ROSE's bed.
MME ROSE continues to stare at the now-curtained windows.
INT. BLACKWELL GRANGE - YELLOW BEDROOM - MEANWHILE
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD opens his bedroom door to see YVETTE standing in the hallway. He eyes her bosom with a smile.
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD
(motioning)
"By all means, come on in."
18.
COL. MUSTARD can't take his eyes off of her young, tightly encased body.
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD
"I wasn't aware Hugh offered this sort of entertainment."
YVETTE frowns, quickly disgusted.
YVETTE
"Herr Gold met me out by the woods. He told me to tell you to go to the Stables tomorrow night at sunset."
COL. MUSTARD furrows his brow.
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD
"What the devil are you talking about?"
YVETTE turns to leave.
YVETTE
"That is all I know, monsieur."
COL. MUSTARD grabs her by the wrist.
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD
"What else did he tell you? Did he pay you? Does Dr. Black know about this?"
YVETTE
(whimpering)
"Please, let go. You're hurting me."
COL. MUSTARD releases YVETTE's hand.
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD
"Go on!"
COL. MUSTARD shakes his fist at her. YVETTE scampers off down the hallway. He shuts his bedroom door and sits down on the edge of his bed.
19.
INT. HOTEL o'range - hotel room 1949 - after midnight
MISS OLIVIA RAVEN enters the HOTEL ROOM in anger. She kicks off her high heels at the door and walks through to the adjacent guest room door. She knocks on it repeatedly.
DR. WALTER RAVEN (70) opens the door rubbing his head.
DR. WALTER RAVEN
(yawning)
"Young lady, have you any idea what time it is. We have a train ride to catch in a few hours."
MISS OLIVIA RAVEN
"I spoke with Mr. Green."
DR. RAVEN's shoulders drop. He checks his pocket watch and groans over the sleep he is missing.
DR. WALTER RAVEN
(sighing)
"And?"
MISS OLIVIA RAVEN
"Someone is trying to expose Sir Benedict Black for the murders in Monte Carlo.

20.
MISS OLIVIA RAVEN (CONT'D)
They have the photographs taken from the last meeting."
DR. WALTER RAVEN
(quickly)
"Does Dr. Black know about this?"
MISS OLIVIA RAVEN
"As far as I know, Mr. Green is trying to shut it down quickly and quietly."
DR. WALTER RAVEN
"Where does he suspect the photographs came from? A club member? An unknown source?"
MISS OLIVIA RAVEN
"Ian Masque was mentioned. Lord Gray and Prince Azure came up."
DR. WALTER RAVEN
(praising her)
"Brilliant work. Keep your ears open, princess."
MISS OLIVIA RAVEN
(smiling)
"Of course. Good night, daddy."
DR. RAVEN retreats to his bedroom with a dark, resonant cackle.
INT. ARLINGTON HALL: BLUE ROOM - AFTER MIDNIGHT
MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK sits awake at the vanity looking at the jewelry box full of rings. The small ruby ring from James Scarlet sits out.
21.
MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK
(picking up the ring)
"You always were a good listener. You would always listen to Vivienne. When she'd tell the most ridiculous stories. Or how she'd go on about singing and dancing. You'd listen to me too. Even when I'd complain and whine. I was a bitch to you. Nothing you did was ever good enough for me. I was grieving and never realized you were grieving too. I loved you, James. I would have fixed us..."
MRS. PEACOCK drops the ring and begins to cry. She looks at the next ring - a pathetic, thin silver band - tarnished in several spots.
MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK
(bitterly)
"And then there's you! Ernest, you monster. I was broken and weak and you took advantage of me. You acted big and strong and promised to take care of me and Vivienne... but you're a sick bastard. You're a perverted sick bastard..."
MRS. PEACOCK drops the wedding band to the floor, gazing through bleary eyes at the next ring - a polished piece of solid diamond with a hole cut for a finger.
MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK
"I hated you for so many years after you died."
(sniffling, laughing)
"You cut down all those trees. But I supposed I didn't care while the Spruce family fortune kept my mansion filled. You taught me how to spend. You taught me what wines to drink.
22.
MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK (CONT'D)
You taught me where to vacation and what time of the year is best. But most importantly, you taught me not to give a single fuck what anyone thinks. I mean, you didn't, after all."
MRS. PEACOCK picks up the next ring - a gold ring with a blue stone in it.
MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK
"I don't even remember how we met. I just remember you were as drunk as I was as often as I was. You were rich, you were a general, and you got to do whatever the hell you wanted with no judgment. For that reason, a tiny bit of you will live on inside of me. You went out of this world drinking and sailing on your own terms. I only hope I'm that lucky. Here's to you, General Cobalt."
MRS. PEACOCK reaches the final ring - a diamond with two sapphires on each side.
MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK
"Oh, Marcus..."
(breaking down)
"Everyone thinks I killed you. I know I did wrong in the past, but I honestly loved you. I'm lost without you. You were the only one who made me feel like I could make it in this world. You were my other half... but then you were always gone. The curse of being the Senator's wife was the lonely nights. Each night alone was so agonizing because I loved you so much. I just.. I..."
MRS. PEACOCK screams out in anguish and collapses onto the vanity. She violently sweeps her arms across the vanity, throwing the jewelry box and the rings to the floor.
INT. ARLINGTON HALL: RED ROOM - CONTINUOUS
MISS VIVIENNE SCARLET and MR. EDWARD CLAY are on the canopy bed having sex. Their moaning and pace imply a nearing climax. The room is musky and the sheets are covered in sweat. On the floor, their clothes lay tangled.
23.
MISS SCARLET screams loudly, clawing and scraping MR. CLAY's shoulders. MR. CLAY collapses on top of her, breathing heavily.
MR. EDWARD CLAY
(out of breath)
"That old bitch at the opera wishes she could do everything you can."
MISS VIVIENNE SCARLET
(excitedly)
"We're starting a whole new life tomorrow. Goodbye Maryland, hello Connecticut."
MR. EDWARD CLAY
"I love you, Vivienne."
MISS SCARLET tilts her head up to face him and kisses him softly on the lips. She smiles widely.
MISS VIVIENNE SCARLET
"You know what I think?"
MR. EDWARD CLAY
(smiling back)
"Hm?"
MISS VIVIENNE SCARLET
"I think we'll be in our own mansion by the end of the summer."
MR. EDWARD CLAY
(laughing)
"You can live in a mansion if you want. I'll be happy with a regular house."
MISS VIVIENNE SCARLET
"I'll be happy anywhere, with you by my side."
MR. CLAY pulls MISS SCARLET close to him. MISS SCARLET lays her head down on his chest and locks her fingers into his. MR. CLAY smiles with a content sigh as he drifts off to sleep.
