A Clue Saga

EXT. BLACKWELL GRANGE - COURTYARD - LATE MORNING
MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK sits on the front steps of Blackwell Grange holding an ice pack on her leg. MISS PEACH is standing beside her.
MISS AMELIA PEACH
"Are you gonna be okay? I can help you to your bedroom."
MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK
"It's starting to feel a little better. Help me up."
MISS PEACH helps MRS. PEACOCK to her feet. As the two women turn to the front doors, the crunch of gravel under a car's tires can be heard from the front gate.
MRS. PEACOCK turns her head slowly and watches as the strange black and brown car approaches.
The car comes to a stop between the COURTYARD and the FOUNTAIN.
P.I. RAYMOND COAL and P.I. ALLEN SEPIA step out, holding their badges out. MRS. PEACOCK gulps as her heart rate increases.
MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK
(uneasily)
"What the hell do they want?"
2.
MISS AMELIA PEACH
(concerned)
"I'll go get Mr. Ash."
MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK
"Yes, please hurry."
MRS. PEACOCK pastes on a fake smiles as she waves to the two gentlemen. They quickly meet her where she stands.
P.I. RAYMOND COAL
"Good afternoon, I'm looking for Patricia Peacock and Vivienne Scarlet."
MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK
"I'm Patricia Peacock, what is this all about?"
P.I. RAYMOND COAL
"Ma'am, do you recognize this man?"
P.I. SEPIA holds up a picture of MR. GUS LIVERWURST. MRS. PEACOCK leans in closer to get a better look.
MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK
"I can't say I do..."
P.I. RAYMOND COAL
"Several eye witnesses claim to have seen him harassing you before boarding the train from Washington D.C. to Pratton, Connecticut."
MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK
"I do recall an unpleasant man causing a bit of a fuss... but I can't say I really remembered his face."
P.I. RAYMOND COAL
"Ma'am, Mr. Liverwurst didn't make it to Pratton. He was found along the tracks. He may have reason to believe his death was not simply a clumsy accident."
MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK
"Well, I'm sorry. I honestly have no idea what to tell you. I only saw that man briefly before boarding the train. I never saw him on the train."
3.
P.I. RAYMOND COAL
"Do you know where we can find Miss Scarlet?"
MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK
"Vivienne just left for brunch. She'll probably be gone a couple hours."
P.I. COAL and P.I. SEPIA look at each other and nod in unison.
P.I. RAYMOND COAL
"That's no problem. We'll wait."
P.I. SEPIA sits down on a concrete bench near the steps. P.I. COAL checks his watch and begins to whistle to himself.
MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK
"Let me go see what is keeping the butler. Won't you gentlemen come inside?"
INT. Bluebell cafÉ - continuous
MISS VIVIENNE SCARLET and MISS ADELAIDE GRAY sit at the most central table in the café. It is moderately busy for brunch.
MISS ADELAIDE GRAY
"I told you those diamond earrings and the necklace would look stunning together."
MISS VIVIENNE SCARLET
"They were my mothers. My father gave them to me on my eighth birthday..."
MISS GRAY sense the sad direction MISS SCARLET's voice is heading.
4.
MISS ADELAIDE GRAY
(redirecting)
"Well, they are absolutely gorgeous. Tell me, what is there to do around here? I hear Pratton has a country club, a winery..."
MISS VIVIENNE SCARLET
"Oh, I'm not a local. I'm from Washington D.C."
MISS ADELAIDE GRAY
"Then you won't mind me saying what a dreadful, boring little town this place is."
MISS VIVIENNE SCARLET
"I've had nothing but bad luck since I got here..."
MISS ADELAIDE GRAY
"I don't believe in luck."
MISS VIVIENNE SCARLET
"I'm all to familiar with the extent of my bad luck. It's my fault that my father even met Patricia..."
MISS GRAY takes a long drink of her mimosa, anticipating MISS SCARLET's story.
MISS ADELAIDE GRAY
(uninterested)
"Do tell."
MISS VIVIENNE SCARLET
"It... it really doesn't matter."
MISS ADELAIDE GRAY
(feigning interest)
"No, I want to hear. If you are going to be miserable, at least fill me in on why you choose to be that way."
MISS VIVIENNE SCARLET
"I just wanted to sing like my mother used to. My father hired a singing coach, I got ready for a concert... and Patricia was in the audience. They hit it off instantly and were inseparable."
5.
MISS ADELAIDE GRAY
"So your jealousy of your stepmother stems from the fact that she upstaged you at your concert? That seems a little petty."
MISS VIVIENNE SCARLET
"There is more to it than that... I just... I don't feel like reliving all of it. Especially after the night I just had."
MISS ADELAIDE GRAY
(coldly)
"You can’t obsess over death. Time isn’t going to magically reverse because you cried hard enough."
MISS GRAY begins to pick at the food on her plate. MISS SCARLET closes her eyes, sighing deeply.
MISS VIVIENNE SCARLET
"I keep watching everyone around me die. Life hardly feels worth living."
MISS ADELAIDE GRAY
"What are you talking about? You've barely begun living. "
MISS VIVIENNE SCARLET
"I just don't know how much more I can take before I become someone that I don't even recognize."
MISS ADELAIDE GRAY
"You just experienced a lot of trauma all in a short period of time... after what seems to be a lifetime of disappointments. What we need to do is get you to a spa. Do they have one in Pratton?"
MISS SCARLET shakes her head no.
MISS VIVIENNE SCARLET
"I think I'm going to need a little bit more than a scrub and a massage."
6.
MISS ADELAIDE GRAY
"Yes, but it is a start. Self-care is the most important thing to being as cheery and carefree as I am. I know! Let's order something ridiculous and expensive off of the menu."
MISS VIVIENNE SCARLET
(raising an eyebrow)
"Like what?"
MISS ADELAIDE GRAY
"This bottle of champagne, maybe some caviar, and those chocolate soufflés that take forever to make. As you can tell, I am in no rush to return to Blackwell Grange."
MISS SCARLET points to the menu.
MISS VIVIENNE SCARLET
"How about the finger-sandwiches. They have cucumber, fish, and cured meats. If we are going to be here a while, I want to eat my fill."
MISS ADELAIDE GRAY
"That sounds like a wonderful idea. Oh, look! It comes on a silver-tiered-platter."
MISS GRAY flags down a waiter with her hand. MISS SCARLET begins to perk up and smile a little.

MRS. BLANCHE WHITE
"These are all of Ava's clothes."
7.
MRS. SILVER wipes her eyes with her handkerchief.
MRS. FRANCINE SILVER
"Thank you, Mrs. White. I'm sorry, I keep getting so emotional while going through all of her things. I would have gotten these out of here sooner. I've just been so busy with Fivel."
MRS. BLANCHE WHITE
"It is no bother, Mrs. Silver. How is the boy doing?"
MRS. FRANCINE SILVER
"He's finding his way to the Lord in solitude. It's not the way I'd hope, but God works in mysterious ways."
MRS. BLANCHE WHITE
"I find time alone helps my mind be at peace. Everyone is different, Mrs. Silver."
MRS. FRANCINE SILVER
"I've been letting him sit out in the prayer garden behind the church. He doesn't like staying at home very much."
MRS. BLANCHE WHITE
"I'm sure he's just used to all the free space he had here."
MRS. FRANCINE SILVER
"Yes, well, children need to be guided and taught. He'll be able to roam freely through the sinful streets of Pratton soon enough."
(pausing)
"Thank you for bringing the rest of my daughter's clothing, Mrs. White. I'll be getting out of your hair."
MRS. BLANCHE WHITE
"Oh, before you go! Mr. Meadow-Brook mentioned that Fivel should be present for the reading of Hugh Black's will."
MRS. FRANCINE SILVER
"That's not necessary. Blackwell Grange is behind him now."
8.
MRS. BLANCHE WHITE
"Well, biologically he is the child of Ava Silver and Hugh Black."
MRS. FRANCINE SILVER
"We don't know that for certain. I choose to believe that someone else is the father."
MRS. BLANCHE WHITE
"That's not the case, Mrs. Silver. We know for a fact that..."
MRS. FRANCINE SILVER
(cutting her off)
"It's not up for debate, Mrs. White. I've made up my mind. And I say that Hugh Black is not Fivel's father."

SERGEANT BENJAMIN GRAY sits on the edge of the swimming pool with his legs and feet in the water. His pants are rolled up to his knees. He is smoking a cigarette. MISS PEACH exits Blackwell Grange from the DINING ROOM.
MISS AMELIA PEACH
"Hi, there!"
SGT. GRAY nods to her and continues to stare silently off into the distance.
MISS AMELIA PEACH
"I'm Amelia Peach, Hugh Black's long-lost baby girl."
SERGEANT BENJAMIN GRAY
(introducing himself)
"Benjamin Gray. The other bastard."
9.
MISS PEACH claps her hands together excitedly and throws her arms around his neck, nearly burning herself on his cigarette in the process.
MISS AMELIA PEACH
(excitedly)
"Oh my goodness! You must be my big brother! Mrs. White and my mamma told me about you last night. I'm so excited to meet you."
SGT. GRAY is clearly not as overjoyed as his newly-found younger sister.
SERGEANT BENJAMIN GRAY
"Can I ask you something?"
MISS AMELIA PEACH
"Only if you'll let me get a drag off that cigarette?"
SGT. GRAY holds it out for her. She takes it and smokes it.
SERGEANT BENJAMIN GRAY
"Why did you come back here?"
MISS AMELIA PEACH
(confused; a little hurt)
"W-What do you mean?"
SERGEANT BENJAMIN GRAY
"Why would you choose to be close with people who lied and abandoned you?"
MISS AMELIA PEACH
"I take it you aren't having the best time with Mrs. White?"
SGT. GRAY shakes his head.
SERGEANT BENJAMIN GRAY
"At first I felt bad for her. I felt bad that Hugh put her through all of that. But then I remembered that people tend to leave out huge details that make them seem like a bad person."
MISS AMELIA PEACH
"At the end of the day, she's your family. She did what had to be done under the circumstances."
10.
SERGEANT BENJAMIN GRAY
"She told me she was sedated for five years and has no memory of raising me or my twin brother. Then she shipped me off to her sister so that I could save the family money."
MISS AMELIA PEACH
"It sounds to me like you are more upset with the family you were sent to live with than you are at Mrs. White."
SERGEANT BENJAMIN GRAY
"But all those years..."
MISS AMELIA PEACH
"We can't go and change the past, sugar."
SERGEANT BENJAMIN GRAY
"How can you look at a stranger you've never met before and call her mother?"
MISS AMELIA PEACH
"Over the years, I've grown to learn that forgiveness is healthier than a grudge."

MR. JOSEPH PERSIMMON
”I understand. What am I to tell Mr. O’Range and Ms. Greenfield?”
DR. GLENN OLIVE
”Nothing. You only answer to me and my wife. Mr. Egret’s loyalty is still being tested.“
MR. JOSEPH PERSIMMON
”Okay.”
DR. GLENN OLIVE
”Baron Bronze is far more important than you realize. Your job is essential.”

Mr. Giuseppe celadon
(choking down tears)
”They found him.”
Mr. Thallo Green
”Your brother?“
(pausing)
”Shit...”
MR. GIUSEPPE CELADON
”He was shot in the face and dumped into a rooftop air vent. They found him over on 50th Street.”
MR. CELADON lowers his head to the arm of MR. GREEN’s chair and starts to do a loud ugly-cry. The patrons in the COCKTAIL LOUNGE begin to disperse and give the two gentlemen space.
MR. THALLO GREEN
”Losing a brother is hard. A twin... I couldn’t imagine. Let’s get you a couple drinks and a hot meal.”
MR. CELADON shakes his head - no.
MR. GIUSEPPE CELADON
”I want out. It’s time to go straight. For our own good.”
MR. THALLO GREEN
”Look, ’Seppe, I already talked to Ms. Greenfield. There isn’t a problem anymore. I understand your concern and your grief, but we are so close to the top. Hell, we might even surpass O’Range.”
MR. GIUSEPPE CELADON
”Thallo, I...”
(stops speaking)
MR. THALLO GREEN
”If you protect me through this deal, we will spend a third of what we make on a memorial for Giovanni. We will honor him. He died like a true hero - protecting the secrets and names of all involved.”
