A Clue Saga

INT. HOTEL O'RANGE - LOBBY - NIGHT
Richly dressed HOTEL GUESTS comes down the staircases and out of the elevator doors, milling into the LOBBY. The piano player is somber, the tone is minor and the theme is bleak.
TWO MEN in dark blue pin-striped suits casually lock two of the three main front doors to the LOBBY. The hotel staff is quiet and stiff, something is wrong.
The finely dressed PATRONS pay no attention to the front doors, laughing and gossiping in their groups as they make their ways into the COCKTAIL LOUNGE, RESTAURANT, ATRIUM, and CASINO.
INT. HOTEL O'RANGE - SUBBASEMENT GARAGE
DOCK WORKERS unload dozens and dozens of barrels of kerosene from the back of a truck trailer. In the SUBBASEMENT GARGAGE's dock entry, CAPTAIN SEAFOAM can be seen in the doorway overseeing the DOCK WORKERS. CAPT. SEAFOAM's freight carrier is visible behind him, through the open doorway, in the harbor.
MR. DANTE EGRET and OTIS GREENFIELD come down the STAIRWELL and enter the SUBBASMENT GARGAGE.
‌Both men nod at CAPT. SEAFOAM.
CAPT. SEAFOAM turns around without a word and heads outside towards the loading platform to his FREIGHT CARRIER.
MR. ERGET looks over at OTIS GREENFIELD, who smirks cockily.
2.
EXT. HOTEL O'RANGE - ALLEY
DUNCAN GREENFIELD locks the emergency exit outside of the CASINO and then moves down the alley to the emergency exit outside of the COCKTAIL LOUNGE. He chains and padlocks the door with shaky, anxious hands.
MS. SARAH GREENFIELD clears her throat and her son looks up to see her standing down the alley beside a SHADOWY MAN in a cloak.
DUNCAN gulps in fear.
MS. GREENFIELD silently points down to the SUBBASEMENT GARAGE.
DUNCAN shakes his head in protest and approaches his mother. He clasps his hands together begging and shaking his head. He lowers himself to his knees.
MS. GREENFIELD touches the side of his face with her hand and then firmly slaps him.
DUNCAN hurries up from his knees, lowers his head, and walks off in the direction his mother points.
INT. HOTEL O'RANGE - DR. RAVEN's SUITE
DR. WALTER RAVEN enters his private suite and flicks on the light. He crosses immediately over to the Monet painting on the interior wall. He pulls it down from the wall and tears open the backing. He reaches his hand inside...
3.
DR. RAVEN withdraws a stack of Black-Gray Pharmaceutical bonds. He quickly stuffs them into the inside breast pocket of his jacket.
DR. RAVEN waddles as quickly as he can over to the safe in his closet. He throws open the door to see that the safe is open and empty.
MR. JOSEPH PERSIMMON steps out of the bathroom of the suite with a jeweled dagger in his right hand and a large diamond in his left.
DR. RAVEN holds up his hands defensively.
EXT. HOTEL O'RANGE - OPEN-AIR ATRIUM - conTINUOUS
A string QUARTET and several OPERA SINGERS rotate through a small concerto as the GUESTS drink champagne and eat hors d'oeuvres in the hollow center of the grand hotel.
INT. HOTEL O'RANGE - CASINO
MR. THALLO GREEN stands at a slot machine focused only on the spinning symbols before him. MR. CELADON comes behind him and taps him roughly on the shoulder.
4.
MR. GIUSEPPE CELADON
"It's time."
MR. GREEN turns away from the slot machine.
MR. THALLO GREEN
"We aren't going to talk about earlier?"
MR. GIUSEPPE CELADON
"No."
MR. CELADON heads straight towards the CASINO door. MR. GREEN follows him, pushing past the finely dressed guests on his way.
MR. THALLO GREEN
"Wait a second. One minute you want out, the next you are Mr. O'Range's yes-man?"
MR. GIUSEPPE CELADON
(coldly)
"Shit changes when you lose a twin. He was with me from the day I was born to the day you had him killed. Now I gotta figure out who I am without him. It ain't gonna be pretty."
MR. CELADON continues to head out of the CASINO.
MR. GREEN stomps his foot in anger, taking a glass of champagne from a passing WAITER. He downs the whole thing and follows after MR. CELADON.
INT. HOTEL O'RANGE - LOBBY - conTINUOUS
MR. GREEN follows MR. CELADON as he heads towards the STAIRWELL.
MR. GREEN notices several extremely wealthy guests and military veterans with their suitcases at the front desk.
5.
He notices a woman with four children rushing out the front door.
The TWO MEN in blue pin-striped suits nod at MR. GREEN from where they guard the exit.
The clicking of the STAIRWELL door behind MR. CELADON alerts MR. GREEN to continue following his former henchmen.
MR. GREEN shakes off the uncomfortable feeling and proceeds down into the STAIRWELL.
INT. HOTEL O'RANGE - DR. RAVEN'S SUITE - conTINUOUS
DR. RAVEN keeps his eyes focused on the dagger in MR. PERSIMMON's grasp.
MR. JOSEPH PERSIMMON
"Where is the revolver?"
MR. PERSIMMON rolls the large diamond around in his left hand.
DR. WALTER RAVEN
"I don't have it. I never did."
MR. JOSEPH PERSIMMON
"Both the jeweled revolver and the jeweled dagger were taken from Prince Azure. Mr. O'Range assured Prince Azure that you had both of them."
DR. RAVEN watches the young man with nervousness and growing worry.
DR. WALTER RAVEN
"I don't have the gun. I don't know what more you want me to tell you."
6.
MR. JOSEPH PERSIMMON
"Well, who has it? I know your big giant ass didn't sneak into Prince Azure's trophy room and take the dagger yourself."
DR. RAVEN sweats profusely as MR. PERSIMMON slowly draws closer to him, dagger pointed outward.
DR. WALTER RAVEN
"Hugh Black. It's probably in a desk or a cabinet in Blackwell Grange somewhere. I couldn't find it when I was there."
MR. JOSEPH PERSIMMON
"How did you get the dagger? Who stole them for you and Hugh Black?"
DR. WALTER RAVEN
"Michael Mustard gave them to us after he failed to bring home Margaret. I tried telling Hugh she didn't want to be found. He was just so determined to bring her home."
MR. PERSIMMON sighs deeply.
MR. JOSEPH PERSIMMON
"You know too much."
DR. RAVEN cannot take his eyes off the razor-sharp blade of the dagger. He holds up his sweaty palms in front of him, trying to persuade MR. PERSIMMON to reconsider.
MR. PERSIMMON cocks his head to the side as he stops approaching.
DR. WALTER RAVEN
(panicking)
"Look, I'm not an issue. I'm on your side. I helped get rid of the issue. I'm the one who killed Hugh Black."
MR. JOSEPH PERSIMMON
(biting his words)
"Killing Hugh Black was the biggest mistake you could have made. How is he supposed to suffer for his actions if he is put out of his misery?"
7.
DR. WALTER RAVEN
"I have a long, dark history with Hugh. I know more than anyone who he was and what he was capable of. You're just a kid. A hothead hired to think you are more important than you really are."
MR. JOSEPH PERSIMMON
"Is that what you think? Then it looks like I've been keeping up with this whole manservant thing well."
DR. RAVEN doesn't like the shift of tone in MR. PERSIMMON's voice.
MR. PERSIMMON's posture and demeanor change in general. From pauper to prince, with a nonchalant stride, he moves in circles between DR. RAVEN and the bathroom doorway.
DR. WALTER RAVEN
"Who are you really?"
MR. JOSEPH PERSIMMON
(counting casually)
"I was Alexander Brown until I was six-years-old. Then I became Anton Brunette till I was twelve. After my mother died, I took her maiden name and my grandfather's first name."
(pausing)
"My father always taught me to slit the throat. But I feel like any part of you will cut like butter."
MR. PERSIMMON grips the dagger tightly and begins to move at DR. RAVEN with ill intent.
EXT. HOTEL O'RANGE - ALLEY
MS. GREENFIELD watches as the SHADOWY MAN carries a spool over to her, unrolling a fuse with each step. He stops in front of her. An old-fashioned detonator sits at her feet. The SHADOWY MAN attaches the fuse to the detonator and stands up with a wicked smile.
MS. GREENFIELD returns the smile with a calm one of her own. She hands the SHADOWY MAN a wad of money.
The SHADOWY MAN takes the money eagerly and begins to thumb through it.
8.
MS. GREENFIELD pulls out a hunting knife with a large, sharp blade and slashes the SHADOWY MAN's gut open without struggle or hesitation.
The SHADOWY MAN gasps and grunts as the intense pain hits him. He grabs his stomach in vain as his intestines slip through his fingers. He falls to the ground beside MS. GREENFIELD, bleeding out and convulsing as she looks onward.
INT. HOTEL O'RANGE - SUBBASEMENT GARAGE
MR. GREEN catches up with MR. CELADON as he shakes hands with MR. EGRET, OTIS GREENFIELD, and DUNCAN GREENFIELD. DUNCAN begins pacing about and looking at all the barrels of kerosene nervously. MR. EGRET is clutching a briefcase protectively. MR. GREEN notices MR. CELADON has his gun drawn at his side.
OTIS GREENFIELD
"So, gentlemen. The time has come."
MR. GREEN looks around at all the barrels of kerosene piled into the SUBBASEMENT GARAGE all around the five of them and begins to quickly count them.
OTIS GREENFIELD
"I can assure you they are all here."
MR. GREEN shakes off the annoying voice of OTIS and focuses on counting all of the barrels.
MR. DANTE EGRET
"And the price we've agreed upon..."
MR. EGRET holds up a briefcase and sets it on a nearby barrel of kerosene. He opens it and OTIS GREENFIELD walks over.
Both men hover over the open briefcase looking at the stacks of money inside.
9.
OTIS GREENFIELD
"This will only get you sixty percent of the barrels unloaded. We're going to need more."
MR. DANTE EGRET
"We talked about this shit the other night. Stop moving the goddamn price!"
OTIS GREENFIELD
"Look, we are trying to sell as a whole. We're gonna need the rest of that money or else we are going to sell it all to someone else."
MR. DANTE EGRET
"You don't got another buyer."
BARON MATHIEU BRONZE steps out of the shadows near the loading dock door.
MR. THALLO GREEN
"Why the fuck are you here? What they hell is this?"
BARON BRONZE keeps his distance from the gentlemen, hovering in the open doorway of the loading dock door.
BARON MATHIEU BRONZE
"I took a serious hit when I sold that field to Ms. Greenfield. If you aren't going to comply with their prices, I will. We both know it can move for double their asking price."
MR. DANTE EGRET
"Triple if it's in the right hands."
BARON MATHIEU BRONZE
"I'm trying to make amends for my hasty decision to sell.
10.
BARON MATHIEU BRONZE (CONT'D)
If I can prove to the Greenfield family that I can move kerosene easily, we may be able to come to some sort of... mutual agreement."
OTIS GREENFIELD
"That ain't never gonna happen. We don't mix with people that ain't kin."
BARON MATHIEU BRONZE
"That's for your mother to decide."
OTIS GREENFIELD
"Momma's getting up there in age. She ain't gonna be the Empress of Kerosene forever."
Mr. DANTE EGRET
"I don't like the way this fool is talking."
MR. EGRET closes the lid of the briefcase.
DUNCAN GREENFIELD
(nervously; upset)
"Come on, Otis... just sell it to them for the original price we talked about. Mamma isn't going to like that fancy Canadian getting involved again."
MR. THALLO GREEN
"Listen to your brother Mr. Greenfield."
OTIS shoves DUNCAN away from the group.
MR. CELADON shoves DUNCAN back towards the group, keeping an eye on everyone present.
DUNCAN slowly regains his footing.
OTIS GREENFIELD
"Duncan's slow in the head. We used to keep him in the shed for his own safety."
DUNCAN GREENFIELD
(anxious)
"Fellas, ya'll gotta make a decision. Come on..."
11.
OTIS GREENFIELD
"Let them take their time, Duncan. I want to see how this plays out."
DUNCAN GREENFIELD
(quietly)
"We ain't got the time..."
MR. GREEN reaches for the pistol in his belt.
MR. THALLO GREEN
"What's the kid mean by that? We ain't got the time? You hear that shit, Dante?"
MR. DANTE EGRET
"All I hear is two redneck scammers trying to hustle. Not today, assholes. It's not fucking happening today."
MR. THALLO GREEN
"Dante, Seppe... we need to go."
MR. GIUSEPPE CELADON
"Walk away from this and you're a dead man, Thallo."
MR. THALLO GREEN
"I'd rather die running out there than like rats in a bucket in here."
MR. GREEN starts backing away towards the STAIRWELL.
MR. CELADON points his pistol in MR. GREEN's direction.
OTIS grabs the briefcase from MR. EGRET and opens it back up on the barrel of kerosene. He begins to count the stacks.
OTIS GREENFIELD
"We ain't done here until the price is settled. You back away and it is all going to Baron Bronze."
BARON MATHIEU BRONZE
"Fine by me."
MR. DANTE EGRET
"I'm not taking sixty percent."
MR. CELADON keeps his pistol steadily on MR. GREEN as his finger slowly moves to the trigger.
12.
Mr. GIUSEPPE CELADON
"Just get back in line."
MR. EGRET leans over the briefcase, inches from the face of OTIS.
OTIS keeps his grip tightly on the edges of the briefcase.
MR. DANTE EGRET
(menacingly)
"I'm taking every single barrel from this hotel and you are walking away with this briefcase. If you say anything other than 'thank you', you and your inbred brother are going to eat a lot of lead for your last meal."
MR. CELADON turns the pistol from MR. GREEN to OTIS and DUNCAN.
OTIS GREENFIELD
(laughing)
"No deal."
MR. THALLO GREEN
(turning away)
"I'm done with this shit..."
All at once-
The barrels in the SUBBASEMENT GARAGE ignite. Metal, stone, and fire force their way through the air. The scorching heat from the explosion breaks through the concrete supports and ceiling.
MR. EGRET and OTIS GREENFIELD are blown apart limb-from-limb as the hover over the briefcase on top of a kerosene barrel. The money withers and crumbles away to ashes as the leather briefcase warps, twists, and melts away to nothing.
MR. CELADON barely has any time to register everything happening. Nearly instantly he is thrown forcefully against the wall, burned severely, and crushed to death as the roof of the GARAGE collapses on top of him. Concrete and piping drop down into the inferno.
DUNCAN GREENFIELD turns to run away as soon as the deafening blast illuminates before his eyes. His effort is in vain. The flames quickly engulf him, melting his clothes against his flesh. His screams of anguish crackle into nothing as his hair and skin peels away to bone.
13.
BARON BRONZE is ejected out the loading dock door, sliding and rolling across the pavement at an alarming rate. He falls straight into the harbor, choking and gasping for air underwater as the paralyzing symptoms from the force of his trauma reach his brain. He helplessly trashes towards shore, skin burned, legs mangled, and arms broken.
MR. GREEN dives into the STAIRWELL as it crumbles around him. Trapped underneath the staircase, incased by rubble, MR. GREEN feels the heat of the flames outside slow roasting STAIRWELL like an oven. MR. GREEN's flesh begins to boil and peel on his face as he places his PISTOL to his temple in agony. He passes out from the heat and the suffering before he can manage pull the trigger and end his miserable life.
INT. HOTEL O'RANGE - LOBBY
The floor of the LOBBY falls towards the elevators, slanting away from the front doors. The electricity falls dark. The darkness is short-lived as the light of the gates of hell open up below.
The TWO MEN in blue pin-striped try to escape, hanging onto the pillars until the wood splints away. GUESTS and STAFF are flung from ottomans, behind desks, down the staircases, out of the glass elevator doors - all straight into the raging fire in the SUBBASEMENT GARAGE.
The upper floors of the building begin to fall, dropping ceilings, chandeliers, and plaster-work.
The screams that pierce the once elegant LOBBY are quickly silenced with the crackling of wood and breaking of glass.
INT. HOTEL O'RANGE - CASINO
The upper balconies fall into the lower level, the cracks in the floor allow the basement flames to spread across the carpet of the CASINO.
GUESTS trample over each other racing for the locked emergency exit as smoke and flames fill the room. The kerosene from the basement burns strong. The upper levels of the hotel collapse under the pressure.
GUESTS, DEALERS, and WAITERS alike are crushed, burned, or suffocated by the concrete, flames, and smoke.
14.
INT. HOTEL O'RANGE - DR. RAVEN'S SUITE
MR. PERSIMMON charges at DR. RAVEN with the dagger ready in his grasp. The entire room shakes with the sound of a massive explosions from below. Both men to lose their footing as pictures and glassware are thrown around.
MR. PERSIMMON regains his balance and charges towards DR. RAVEN once more.
Before MR. PERSIMMON or DR. RAVEN have a chance to process the cause or effect of the explosion-
The entire room suddenly shifts as the building collapses. The electricity sparks and snaps shuts off, sending the room into darkness.
Everything is thrown to the left as the upper levels fall sideways into the street. The impact of the crash sends furniture and debris everywhere. Smoke and flames can be seen through the broken walls. More sections breaking off and falling into the streets and harbor.
MR. PERSIMMON drops the dagger as everything falls apart around him. He keeps the diamond tightly in his left hand.
As the building settles, MR. PERSIMMON is shocked and relieved to find himself uninjured aside from carpet-burn, and busted shin, and a twisted ankle.
MR. PERSIMMON looks over to see DR. RAVEN bloody and unresponsive underneath a bureau.
The door frame of the bathroom begins to crack and give out as the wall-now-ceiling crashes down. A large wardrobe from another room crashes down near MR. PERSIMMON.
MR. PERSIMMON blinks a few times in shock as he hears the groaning and creaking of the collapsed, burning hotel around him.
MR. PERSIMMON puts the diamond in his left pant pocket and rushes over to the sideways window.
15.
He punches through the remainder of the broken glass and looks out to see a short jump to a pile of rubble.
MR. PERSIMMON leaps out of the window and falls hard on the rubble - the jump was higher than he calculated. His ankles and knees feel cold and numb. He lays back on the rubble, breathing in and out rapidly. He looks up at the purple, sunset sky as black smoke from the burning hotel pollutes his view.
WOMAN
"There's someone over there! Somebody help him!"
MR. PERSIMMON smiles as the bystanders notice him. He hears the approaching sound of ambulances and firetrucks.
EXT. CAPT. SEAFOAM's CARRIER - BRIDGE
The FREIGHT CARRIER is drifting away from New York City the middle of the Upper Bay.
MR. IGOR O'RANGE stand on the BRIDGE looking back towards the city. He lights a cigar as he watches as the hotel continues to collapse and crumble into the streets and into the harbor. CAPT. SEAFOAM stands beside MR. O'RANGE with trembling hands and tears in his eyes. Screams of terrors can be heard with the ringing of firetruck sirens.
MR. IGOR o'RANGE
"The insurance money will be worth it. You'll get your share in a month or so once everything is sorted out. In the meantime, here is the price we agreed upon."
MR. O'RANGE hands a wad of cash to CAPT. SEAFOAM.
CAPTAIN GREGORY SEAFOAM
(grief-stricken)
"All those women, children... the staff..."
16.
MR. IGOR O'RANGE
(unfazed)
"Yes, it'll be the headlines of the Titanic all over again. Anyway, if you'll dock us over in Jersey, we can part ways..."
EXT. BLACKWELL GRANGE - LAKE - DUSK
The sky grows dimmer by the minute. MRS. MARGARET BLACK-BODDY wanders towards the BOAT HOUSE as the shadows of the woods cast over the estate.
MRS. BLACK-BODDY notices a figure standing on the edge of the pier producing a great deal of smoke. As she draws nearer, she sees MADAME ROSE BLACK with an opium pipe between her lips. She exhales a long stream of smoke out over the lake.
MADAME ROSe BLACK
"I thought I saw you the other day."
MRS. MArGARET BLACK-BODDY
"Now, when you say saw, do you mean in those cards and stones? Or do you mean with your own two eyes?"
MADAME ROSE BLACK
"You were in the woods near the stables watching Mrs. Peacock and Miss Peach ride horses."
17.
MRS. MARGARET BLACK-BODDY
"Yes, I love those horses. I suppose Windsor must be fourteen or fifteen by now. I remember the Christmas when King Azure gifted Windsor to me. Samuel was so angry. He always was a jealous one... considering..."
MME ROSE walks near the edge of the pier and offers the opium pipe to her younger sister.
MRS. BLACK-BODDY shakes her head in disgust, declining. She climbs onto the pier and walks to the edge, looking at the darkness that quickly followed the sunset.
MADAME ROSE BLACK
"Hugh spent so much time with those horses after you went missing."
MRS. BLACK-BODDY puts both her hands on the top of the wooden piling at the corner of the pier.
MRS. MARGARET BLACK-BODDY
"You understand why I did what I did, don't you Rose?"
MADAME ROSE BLACK
"I'm not sure any of us will ever truly understand."
MRS. BLACK-BODDY smiles and turns back to her sister.
MRS. MARGARET BLACK-BODDY
"My freedom was taken from me when I was raped and Brenda was put into my stomach. King Peter and Prince Philippe both offered me a way out of my misery. I would have been a fool to not take it."
MADAME ROSE BLACK
"Your son has grieved you for years. Surely the pain and misery he feels should not excuse your judgment..."
MRS. MARGARET BLACK-BODDY
"I tried being a mother to that boy for eight long years. If everything I've heard about him in the past decade has been true, then I made the right choice. John is more of a Boddy than he'll ever be a Black.

MRS. MARGARET BLACK-BODDY (CONT'D)
He's weak, he's impulsive, he's not a leader..."
MADAME ROSE BLACK
"Father is trying to put John in charge of Blackwell Grange."
MRS. MARGARET BLACK-BODDY
"Then that will make it all the easier to take away from them."
MME ROSE takes a long drag off of the opium pipe.
MADAME ROSE BLACK
"And when the bell tolls and the grim reaper rides up on our doorstep..."
MRS. MARGARET BLACK-BODDY
"My dear sister, the grim reaper is already here."
MADAME ROSE BLACK
"How long do we have before Azure destroys our lives from the ground up?"
MRS. MARGARET BLACK-BODDY
"Philippe will not harm anyone unless I tell him to. A better question, dear Rose, would be figuring out what you can do for me in order to earn your ticket to protection."
MADAME ROSE BLACK
"I've seen ghosts, spirits - I've felt the presence of demons and angels - but I will never make a deal with the devil."
MME ROSE turns away from MRS. BLACK-BODDY and quickly makes her way towards BLACKWELL GRANGE. Her necklaces and frock clinking and swishing loudly as she picks up the pace.
MRS. BLACK-BODDY turns her attention back to the lake and smiles to herself.
MRS. MARGARET BLACK-BODDY
(continuing to laugh)
"Go spread the word, dear sister. I know your gums are always flapping nonsense that no one believes anyway...

It will be all the more amusing to watch when every ridiculous warning and prophecy comes true."
INT. SILVER HOME - LIving ROOM - cONTINUOUS
MRS. FRANCINE SILVER opens the front door with shaky hands. OFFICER LEON MOSS enters with a serious look on his face.
OFFICER LEON MOSS
"Mrs. Silver? I'm Officer Moss. I need you to tell me what happened tonight."
MRS. SILVER slowly sinks down, sitting on the bottom step of the staircase to the second floor.
MRS. FrANCINe SIlvER
"He stormed off from the supper table. He has been so angry lately... I let him go to his room for only a moment while I prayed about it."
OFFICER MOSS takes note of everything MRS. SILVER is saying.
MRS. FRANCINE SILVER
"When I got to his bedroom door and opened it... he wasn't there. The window was open and the curtains were billowing in the wind."
OFFICER LEON MOSS
"I'm going to have a look around. He didn't leave anything, a run-away note? A letter from a friend?"
MRS. FRANCINE SILVER
"No, none of that. He doesn't have any friends."
20.
OFFICER LEON MOSS
"Is there any money missing from the house? Is it possible he's going to try to buy a train ticket?"
MRS. FRANCINE SILVER
(panicking)
"I don't know, Officer! I really don't know my grandson all that well. I have no idea where he would try to run away to..."
MRS. SILVER's voice falls short and her eyes widen in sudden realization.
OFFICER LEON MOSS
"What is it?"
MRS. FRANCINE SILVER
"Blackwell Grange. He's been asking when he can return..."
OFFICER LEON MOSS
"You think he went back there? After everything he went through over there?"
MRS. FRANCINE SILVER
"He's a troubled boy, Officer Moss! There's no time to argue. Send someone over to Blackwell Grange, at once!"
INT. BLACKWELL GRANGE - BILLIARD ROOM - CONTINUOUS
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD pulls his pants up, securing his belt. MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK tries her best to close her blouse without any buttons, securing her jacket over the loose fabric underneath.
21.
MRS. PATrIcIA peACOCK
(awkwardly)
"Well, that was certainly... a treat."
COL. MUSTARD smiles, walking over to her. He takes her face in both of his hands and pulls her lips to his.
MRS. PEACOCK struggles and pulls back.
MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK
(dismissing him)
"Mike, please. The fun is over."
COL. MUSTARD furrows his brow.
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD
"I meant what I said. It always has been you. You've always been more special to me than I can admit."
MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK
"Mike, don't make this difficult. We had some fun. All that sexual tension built up for decades was finally released. But that's all it was. I'm very drunk and you are always down for a good time. I saw you hit that scotch bottle pretty hard."
COL. MUSTARD immediately grabs the bottle and takes another long swig off of it.
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD
"You're really going to pretend like what we just did was nothing?"
MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK
"I'm not pretending, Mike. That's all it was: drunken tension."
COL. MUSTARD stares down the neck of the bottle.
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD
"No wonder Hugh threw you to the streets. You're a cold bitch, Patricia."
MRS. PEACOCK crosses her arms.
MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK
"I thought you loved me?"
22.
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD
"I fucking do. That's why it hurts to let you know how poisonous and vile you can be. You don't dismiss people, you destroy them. You always try to leave people feeling worse than you do. But you've always been unhappy, haven't you? Chasing after money and men that don't please you."
MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK
"You've got no money and you aren't the type of man who is able to please me. What do you expect me to do, Mike? Get violently drunk every night so that I can have sex with you without throwing up?"
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD
"Well, you get violently drunk every night anyway..."
MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK
"I drink to live with the mistakes I've made. It's going to take weeks of drinking to erase all of..."
(she points to his crotch)
"... that from my brain."
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD
"Whatever helps you sleep at night."
COL. MUSTARD takes the scotch bottle with him as he heads towards the door to the HALL.
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD
"It's all starting to make sense now. The fact that you can't remember all the details to your husband's deaths. I suppose enough weeks, months, or even years of drinking can erase the most insidious memories."
INT. BLACKWELL GRANGE - CONSERVATORY
MISS VIVIENNE SCARLET sits alone. A nearly finished plate of food sits on the wicker coffee table in front of her. MR. REGINALD ASH enters the room with a nearly empty bottle of red wine.
23.
MR. REGINALD ASH
"Would you like the rest? I can go get a fresh bottle if you need more."
MISS SCARLET holds up her empty wine glass as MR. ASH fills it.
MISS viviEnNe SCArlet
"I'm going to take a wild guess and assume Patricia killed most of this bottle over dinner."
MR. REGINALD ASH
"Your stepmother wasn't present for dinner. It was a rather quiet affair."
MISS VIVIENNE SCARLET
"She's probably still upset..."
MR. ASH hums to himself, not trying to pry or get involved in their business.
MISS VIVIENNE SCARLET
"Can I ask you something rather personal?"
MR. REGINALD ASH
(humming)
"Hmm, I suppose you may."
MISS VIVIENNE SCARLET
"How did you overcome the guilt over losing your wife?"
MR. ASH is caught off guard by the question, losing his grip on the empty wine bottle, nearly dropping it.
MR. REGINALD ASH
"Oh, well... um..."
24.
MISS VIVIENNE SCARLET
"I'm sorry. That was so rude of me... it's just. I can't help but feel as though I betrayed Edward in more ways than one. He's dead and I'll never be able to tell him how sorry I am. I thought the candle vigil would help me overcome my grief, but when Greyson fell... it... I just..."
MR. REGINALD ASH
"The guilt I feel over my wife is from doing nothing. There was nothing you could have done to save Mr. Clay. I know that may not be what you want to hear, but it is the truth. All feelings and concerns you have are understandable. But Mr. Clay is not watching over you and judging you for this self-assigned sense of betrayal. He is loving you and hoping you stay strong for him, because he would hate seeing you as sad and miserable as you've been. When I gave the two of you a tour of the mansion on the first day you arrived, there was this moment in the ballroom. You were entranced by the harp and smiled so sweetly. Mr. Clay's eyes lit up and he immediately hugged you and kissed you on the top of the head. I want you to remember that moment. Stop spending your days in the conservatory where he died. Spend time in the ballroom where he lived and loved."
MISS SCARLET smiles as she closes her eyes and feels the warmth of the memory MR. CLAY's arms around her.
MISS VIVIENNE SCARLET
"I can hear him, Mr. Ash."
MISS SCARLET's eyes begin to fill with tears. Sadness with a glint of joy.
MISS VIVIENNE SCARLET
"I can finally remember Edward's voice again."
25.
MR. ASH smiles and nods to MISS SCARLET as he dismisses himself. He opens the door to the HALL as MISS SCARLET stands up from the wicker chair.
MISS VIVIENNE SCARLET
"I know you want to bring her back - your wife. I... I don't know how you are going to do it, but when the day comes, I want to help you bring her home."
INT. MEADOW-BROOK HOME - DINING ROOM
MR. MILES MEADOW-BROOK carves a roast chicken at the head of the table. MRS. JANE MEADOW-BROOK gently smacks JESSICA MEADOW-BROOK on the arm to remove her elbows from the dining room table.
JESSICA MEADOW-BROOK
"When is Malcolm coming home?"
MRS. MEADOW-BROOK looks up across the table at her husband, who says nothing, rolls his eyes, and continues carving the chicken.
MRS. JANE MEADoW-BROOK
(clearing her throat)
"Well, your brother was very out of line. He put us all in danger by telling the Slate-Grey's about Mercy. He is going to be spending some time in Virginia until he has time to reform. Captain Sky is very determined that Malcolm will be a very easy and simple case."
JESSICA MEADOW-BROOK
(angrily)
"You shipped him off to military school because of your secret?"
26.
MRS. JANE MEADOW-BROOK
"Jessica, I won't have that tone at the dinner table."
JESSICA MEADOW-BROOK
"No, but you'll break this family apart in every possible way except by getting Mercy the help and treatment she needs!"
MR. MEADOW-BROOK drops the carving knife, loosing his patience. He slams his palms loudly on the surface of the table.
MR. MILES MEADOW-BROOK
(firmly)
"Jessica, that is enough!"
JESSICA MEADOW-BROOK
"What happens when you get sick of me?"
MRS. JANE MEADOW-BROOK
"Well, there is a lovely little convent up in Rhode Island. If I were you, I wouldn't worry about where I might end up and focus instead on being on my best behavior."
MS. SAPPHIRE HO comes rushing from the KITCHEN door screaming and winded.
MS. SAPPHIRE HO
"Mr. Meadow-Brook! Someone set fire to the trash cans!"
EXT. MEADOW-BROOK HOME - BACK YARD - conTINUOUS
MR. MEADOW-BROOK rushes outside the KITCHEN door to see two metal trashcans burning and smoking beside the detached garage.
27.
MR. MEADOW-BROOK quickly grabs the gardening hose from underneath the KITCHEN window and turns on the spicket.
MR. MEADOW-BROOK sprays water all over the trashcans and the wooden siding of the garage.
As soon as the fire is extinguished, MR. MEADOW-BROOK turns back to see MS. HO and MRS. MEADOW-BROOK crowded on the back step.
MS. SAPPHIRE HO
"Should I call the police?"
MRS. MEADOW-BROOK shake her head no as she walks off the step and proceeds into the backyard beside her husband.
MRS. JANE MEADOW-BROOK
"Miles, look..."
MRS. MEADOW-BROOK points to the front of the garage door.
<<FREE THE MONSTER>>
MR. MEADOW-BROOK looks at the threat in fresh red paint. He turns the hose to the garage door and begins to wash the paint off.
MRS. JANE MEADOW-BROOK
"Miles, what are we going to do?"
28.
INT. UNKNOWN ROOM
MALCOLM MEADOW-BROOK is suddenly woken up. He finds himself on a mattress in a small dormitory. The lights quickly flash on, blinding the anxious young boy. MALCOLM immediately notices the bottle of sedatives on the metal dresser across the room and the uneasy, woozy feeling in his head and stomach. CAPTAIN LEE SKY stands in the doorway beside a younger BOY with a similar face.
CAPTAIN leE SkY
"This is my son, Andrew. He will be showing you around the camp, yard, and dorms. Report to my office at seven hundred hours tomorrow morning. You start basic training tomorrow."
MALCOLM stands at the edge of his bed uncertain of the new world he has be thrust into.
CAPT. SKY turns away and leaves.
ANDREW SKY
"First time in one of these places? I recognize the look."
MALCOLM MEADOW-BROOK
"My parents sent me here to get rid of me."
ANDREW SKY
"It happens more than you'd think. Half the boys here didn't do any of the crap they are being accused of. Life has a way of showing you that someone is always going to end up on the bottom of someone else's boot."
MALCOLM closes his eyes.
29.
MALCOLM MEADOW-BROOK
"I don't think I can do this."
ANDREW SKY
"Trust me, everyone is a lot stronger than they give themselves credit for. Once the feeling of abandonment starts to wear off, you'll be surprised what you find yourself capable of."
MALCOLM MEADOW-BROOK
"You don't even know me. What makes you so certain of what I am capable of."
ANDREW SKY
"I've spent a lot of time with blond boys with sad green eyes. I know your type very well."
ANDREW locks with with MALCOLM for a moment.
MALCOLM MEADOW-BROOK
"My parents didn't send me here because I'm gay. They sent me here because I told someone else their secret. A secret that if your father found out about, my parents could be in a lot of trouble."
ANDREW SKY
"See, Malcolm? I told you I knew you were capable of more than crying and shivering on a bed."
MALCOLM takes a deep breath and steps close to ANDREW.
MALCOLM MEADOW-BROOK
"If I tell you everything, will you talk to your dad and get him to get me out of this place?"
ANDREW SKY
"Maybe. What are you gonna do for me?"
ANDREW bites his lip gently.
MALCOLM MEADOW-BROOK
"I have a boyfriend back home."
ANDREW shrugs.
30.
ANDREW SKY
"You still have a boyfriend if you ever get out of this place and see him anytime soon. I imagine he'll find someone else if you take too long. Granted, he'll never find someone as soft and cute as you are."
MALCOLM closes his eyes and exhales through his nose.
MALCOLM MEADOW-BROOK
"Fine. I'll do whatever you want."
ANDREW SKY
"That is what I like to hear."
ANDREW rubs his hands together.
ANDREW SKY
(ordering Malcolm)
"On the bed, lose the shirt. Don't worry, I'll be gentle."
INT. SILVER HOME - FIVEL'S ROOM - CONTINUOUS
MRS. SILVER sits alone at the open window staring out into the night. She slowly pulls a folded letter from her blouse. She opens the stationary and tearfully reads it over and over again.
<<I'm not coming back. Don't look for me. You won't fine me. Fivel Dove.>>
31.
INT. SLATE-GREY HOME - FOYER
MR. MEADOW-BROOK kicks open the front door, crowbar in hand. The doorframe breaks and splinters. MR. GRAHAM SLATE-GREY rushes down the staircase alarmed.
MR. GRAHAM SLATE-GREY
"Miles, what the hell?"
MR. MILES MEADOW-BROOK
"You think this is some kind of game?"
MR. MEADOW-BROOK smashes the mirrored table beside the front door.
MR. GRAHAM SLATE-GREY
"Miles!"
MRS. CHRISTA SLATE-GREY and JAKE SLATE-GREY come running from the KITCHEN. CHRISTA stands protectively in front of JAKE.
MRS. CHRISTA SLATE-GREY
"Graham, what the hell is going on?"
MR. MILES MEADOW-BROOK
"Your husband set my trashcans on first. I got the message loud and clear, Graham."
MILES raises the crowbar over his head and swings it at GRAHAM, smashing into a baluster.
32.
MRS. CHRISTA SLATE-GREY
"What are you talking about? Graham didn't do anything."
MR. MILES MEADOW-BROOK
"Bullshit! I bet you have an open can of red paint sitting in your garage right now."
JAKE SLATE-GREY
"He's been with us all night!"
MR. GRAHAM SLATE-GREY
"It's true!"
MR. SLATE-GREY holds up his hands defensively.
MR. MEADOW-BROOK can see the terror and confusion in all three members of the SLATE-GREY family's eyes. He drops the crowbar on the floor.
MR. MILES MEADOW-BROOK
"If it wasn't you, then we have a serious fucking problem."
MR. GRAHAM SLATE-GREY
"No, Miles. You have a serious fucking problem. Get out of my house! Now!"
