A Clue Saga

Int. Blackwell grange - study - late evening
DR. HUGH BLACK sits behind his desk. He is scratching the back of his head in frustration.
In the armchair before the desk, MASTER JOHN BODDY reclines informally with one leg dangling over the arm rest.
Dr. Hugh Black
"What were you thinking?"
MASTER JOHN BODDY
(snidely)
"I was thinking it's about time I start acting like the man you always tell me to be. What were you thinking? Interrupting dinner like that..."
DR. HUGH BLACK
(slamming his fists down)
"Enough. Your sharp tongue can get you far in this world but I'll break your neck before I allow you to talk to me that way. What the fuck were you thinking, John? A woman twice your age?"
MASTER JOHN BODDY
"Andrea isn't twice my age. Close... but not quite."
DR. HUGH BLACK
"You are seventeen years old."
MASTER JOHN BODDY
"Not for much longer. The wedding will be after I'm eighteen."
DR. HUGH BLACK
"You can't seriously think that I'll allow this?"
MASTER JOHN BODDY
"What are you going to do, Uncle? Disinherit me again? You already did that when you proposed to that woman and brought a little blond heir into the mix. Don't waste either of our times with your power-play of 'allowing' and 'demanding'.

2.
MASTER JOHN BODDY (CONT'D)
I've accepted the truth in my uncertain future, accept yours."
DR. BLACK stands up from his desk and walks over to the wet bar. He pours brandy into a snifter. The scraping of the glass decanter stopper startles MASTER BODDY. The boy tries to play it off as nothing, but the crack of thunder startles him again a moment later.
DR. BLACK smirks at the realization of how jumpy his nephew is.
MASTER JOHN BODDY
"Haven't you had enough? I know I've only just arrived, but something tells me you've had a few of those already."
DR. BLACK grinds his teeth, tightening his jaw with resentment and loathing.
DR. HUGH BLACK
"What do you know about this woman? Who is she? Where does she come from?"
MASTER JOHN BODDY
"Why don't I just bring her in here myself and you can shine your desk lamp in her face?"
DR. HUGH BLACK
"Dammit John, I have enemies. People that want me dead. The same people that made Margaret and Samuel disappear could be using her to get to us. Answer my goddamn questions. Who is she? What do you know about her family?"
MASTER JOHN BODDY
"Don't you dare bring up my parents! Have you forgotten that I blame you as much as I blame Colonel Mustard?"
DR. BLACK takes a long, steady drink, finishing the brandy in one gulp.
DR. HUGH BLACK
(harshly)
"Fuck your feelings. Fuck your blame. Who is Andrea Orchid?"
3.
MASTER JOHN BODDY
"An orphan."
DR. HUGH BLACK
"What happened to her parents?"
MASTER JOHN BODDY
"She doesn't like to talk about it."
DR. HUGH BLACK
"Convenient. What type of doctor is she?"
MASTER JOHN BODDY
"Botanist. Toxicology. She'll get along with Rusty and Uncle Victor just fine."
DR. HUGH BLACK
(annoyed by the lunacy)
"An orphan turned plant-poison doctor? Are you serious, John? How did the two of you meet? Bump into each other on a rainy day?"
MASTER JOHN BODDY
"Careful, Uncle. These same questions can be asked about your fiancee."
DR. HUGH BLACK
"I did my digging. I made sure Brenda Dove is who she said she is."
MASTER JOHN BODDY
"Then have one of your creepy little men check in on my fiancee if you are so paranoid. In the meantime, leave me out of this. Bringing me in here and halting dinner was a rude, tacky decision, Uncle. Learn to control your emotions, please."
Master Boddy hops up from the armchair and walks to the STUDY door.
DR. BLACK rushes over to MASTER BODDY and grabs him by the collar of his suit coat. He drags the boy to the chair and throws him in it. DR. BLACK promptly pours himself another brandy and sits down behind his desk.
4.
DR. HUGH BLACK
"I can unlock my bottom drawer, take out my revolver, shoot you in the head, blame the gunshot on thunder, and stuff your body into one of the secret passageways before I board them up for good."
Thunder crashes loudly, illuminating the windows in a quick white flash of lightning. DR. BLACK points to the window and smiles.
DR. HUGH BLACK
"See."
(pausing)
"Now, I have some very direct questions that need very specific answers. No comments. No remarks. No attitude. You will answer every question I have until I am satisfied with the answers. Then I will tell you what will happen next and you will do what I say."
MASTER BODDY sits in the chair with trembling hands and a shaky chest.
DR. HUGH BLACK
"Nod if you understand me -- otherwise lower your head onto my desk so this can be quick and easy for Mrs. White to clean up."
MASTER BODDY nods silently. Fumbling his fingers together to make his hands appear to be shaking at their own will.
DR. HUGH BLACK
"Go pour yourself a brandy."
MASTER BODDY stands up with wobbly knees and walks over to the wet bar.
INT. BLACKWELL GRANGE - DINING ROOM - coNTINUOUS
DR. ANDREA ORCHID is standing at the large windows looking out at the SWIMMING POOL, which is being overfilled and flooded with rain. Lightning flashes across the sky, illuminating the room.
5.
MONSIEUR ALPHONSE BRUNETTE
"Perhaps we should call it. Dinner is over. Mr. Green, Madame Rose, and Sgt Gray have already gone to the billiard room for drinks... I think that might be the best bet to save the evening."
MISS BRENDA DOVE, MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK, and MISS OLIVIA RAVEN all stare at DR. ORCHID with mixed feelings of curiosity, growing hatred, and contempt.
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD stands up from the table and slowly approaches DR. ORCHID.
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD
(clearing his throat)
"If I may..."
(taking her arm and turning her to the group)
"An exotic beauty walks into a beloved home and criticizes it in front of an odd-ball of a group..."
DR. ANDREA ORCHID
"Colonel, my groom-to-be told me all about your magnificent failure in Africa. My criticism comes after much consideration and research of my own. The newspapers did not shames you well enough. You barely tried to look for Samuel and Margaret when they went missing. A day? Maybe a day and a half? Then you went to Monte Carlo for some well-deserved drinking and gambling."
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD
"Were you there? Do you know what happened?"
DR. ANDREA ORCHID
"No."
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD
"Then mind your business."
DR. ANDREA ORCHID
"I was just pointing out the fact that I am not swooned with your lies of heroism. And anyone who is swooned is a stupid idiot. No offense, Mrs. Peacock."
6.
MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK
(baffled)
"Excuse me?"
DR. ANDREA ORCHID
"Well, one can only assume by reading the newspapers that you'll be latching onto a powerful eligible man any day now. Colonel Mustard fits the type, though he has the same financial situation you have... so I would advise seeking someone else. Or is that why you are here? Looking to seek out an old flame? See if the lovey-dovey romance is truly..."
MISS BRENDA DOVE
(cutting her off)
"Careful, dear. I'm either loved or hated, but people at least know my name. No one has a clue who you are or what you are doing here."
DR. ANDREA ORCHID
(to Miss Dove)
"You are the most out of place person here. We at least are, married, or come from doctors."
DR. ORCHID indicates herself, MRS. PEACOCK, and MISS RAVEN.
MISS BRENDA DOVE
"I'm marrying a doctor."
MISS OLIVIA RAVEN
"We'll see."
MISS BRENDA DOVE
"What are you even doing here? No one invited you. Mrs. White had to throw together a name card in the dining room last minute for you. Hugh has a business arrangement with your father, not you."
MISS OLIVIA RAVEN
"Bite me. I can do anything I want."
MRS. PATRICIA PEACOCK
(aside)
"Anything except keep Hugh's interest."
7.
M. BRUNETTE stands up.
MONSIEUR ALPHONSE BRUNETTE
"On that, I'm off to the billiard room. Colonel?"
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD
"Not a chance. I'd rather see this one in person, rather than hear about it tomorrow morning."
Before M. BRUNETTE can leave the room, the DINING ROOM doors open and DR. BLACK and MASTER BODDY enter the room. MASTER BODDY has a sullen, defeated look and demeanor. DR. BLACK walks straight towards DR. ORCHID and COL. MUSTARD.
DR. HUGH BLACK
"Doctor Orchid..."
(pausing)
"What is your practice?"
DR. ANDREA ORCHID
(quickly; ready)
"I'm an herbalist. Toxicology is a hobby. John has told me all about your family's company. Black-Gray Pharmaceuticals. I hear you make your own opium? I saw the poppy field near the edge of the woods."
DR. HUGH BLACK
(laughing)
"I don't make it personally. Close family friends have all of that taken care of in south-east Asia."
DR. ANDREA ORCHID
"I'm happy to hear that BGP is still thriving strong with nepotism."
DR. HUGH BLACK
"You know much about BGP?"
DR. ANDREA ORCHID
"Yes. I met Lord Lavender in Burma last summer. He discussed his feelings after having his shareholder stocks blackmailed away from him."
Dr. Black looks at John Boddy with concern.
8.
DR. HUGH BLACK
(with a fake smile)
"You know the Lavender family?"
DR. ANDREA ORCHID
"Not on a personal level. Only business."
DR. HUGH BLACK
"And what is it that your family does?"
DR. ANDREA ORCHID
"I wouldn't know. I was an orphan, but thank you for putting me on the spot publicly."
COL. MUSTARD bursts out into laughter.
DR. HUGH BLACK
(appalled)
"What could you possibly find funny."
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD
"There is just so much hypocrisy and irony in this whole situation. I'm sorry... I'm just enjoying myself too much. Alphonse, let's go to the billiard room."
M. BRUNETTE and COL. MUSTARD leave the DINING ROOM together.
DR. ANDREA ORCHID
"Is there anything else, Dr. Black?"
DR. HUGH BLACK
"Just one thing..."
(pause)
"Welcome to Blackwell Grange."
DR. ANDREA ORCHID
(chuckling)
"I think you mean 'welcome to the family'. I'm not here on some short-term vacation. John told me all about your conservatory. I intend on setting up in there."
DR. HUGH BLACK
"None of that has been decided."
9.
DR. ANDREA ORCHID
"I don't need permission, but I appreciate the show of self-assumed power. I'm a big fan of leadership tactics. I use them myself. It really helps keep people in line. Especially the types of people that need to be kept in line."
DR. HUGH BLACK
(staring into her eyes)
"Yes, I'm sure the conservatory will suit you well."
DR. ANDREA ORCHID
"A conservatory, a crypt, an attic... anything can be made into a workspace."
There is a tension between Dr. Black and Dr. Orchid. A silent, dense lull fills the room until the silence rings in their ears.
DR. HUGH BLACK
"Please, have a seat. The lobster and steak are getting cold."
DR. ANDREA ORCHID
"Thank you, no. I won't be having any of this. I'll help myself to the kitchen and prepare something more satisfying."
DR. ORCHID walks to the KITCHEN door and leaves the DINING ROOM in stunned silence.
MISS BRENDA DOVE
"Hugh..."
DR. HUGH BLACK
(upset)
"Not now."
MISS BRENDA DOVE
"Hugh, things... things are changing. Everything is happening so fast... I..."
DR. HUGH BLACK
(grabbing her shoulders)
"I said not now. Go to the Lounge, I need to handle things in here."
10.
DR. BLACK releases his grip on MISS DOVE's shoulders. She exits the DINING ROOM and turns left, instead of right - towards the LOUNGE.
DR. HUGH BLACK
"Everyone, I apologize for everything. This is not what I had planned for dinner. Please, enjoy yourselves. Feel free to looking around the mansion at your own will. I'll have my staff find you and serve you dessert in half an hour."
DR. WALTER RAVEN waddles over to DR. BLACK.
DR. HUGH BLACK
"Now, is most certainly not the time, Dr. Raven."
DR. WALTER RAVEN
(harrumphing)
"I'm afraid I will not wait. To the library?"
DR. HUGH BLACK
"God damn you, fine."
DR. BLACK leads DR. RAVEN out of the DINING ROOM and across the HALL.
INT. BLACKWELL GRANGE - BALLROOM - LATE EVENING
MISS VIVIENNE SCARLET and MR. EDWARD CLAY pull open the thick red curtains as the lights around the room slowly buzz and flicker on. MR. ASH stands above them on the balcony above the curtained entrance.
MISS SCARLET enters the room ahead of MR. CLAY.
She looks around at the gold-framed mirrors that cover nearly every wall.
An ivory and gold grand piano rests in the semi-circle window alcove at the back of the room with a seating area for a string quartet.
The deep, outstretched room is filled with Edwardian furniture, a harp, a large gramophone with a horn, and long fainting couch.
11.
MISS viVIENNE SCARLET
"This room..."
(speechless)
"... the Washington D.C. Opera House is nearly the size of this room. How tall are these ceilings?"
MR. REGINALD ASH
"Four stories. The dome is visible from the attic. One has to walk around it."
MR. EDWARD CLAY
"I'm sure the music echoes through every upstairs hallway."
MR. REGINALD ASH
"Quite the contrary. This room is sound proofed. We used to have large wooden doors to fully seal in the sound, but these thick curtains were chosen as an artistic alternative. If you'll wait on moment, I'll come down and show you on to the next room."
MISS SCARLET plucks a string on the harp and smiles. MR. CLAY comes over to her and hugs her from behind, kissing the top of her head.
MR. EDWARD CLAY
"We're going to be fine here. Everything is going to work out."
MISS VIVIENNE SCARLET
"I just..."
MR. EDWARD CLAY
"Shhh. Don't let your thoughts go there again. Just enjoy this."
MISS SCARLET looks around the BALLROOM one last time as MR. ASH appears the in the doorway.
MR. REGINALD ASH
"Shall we adjourn to the conservatory?"
INT. BLACKWELL GRANGE - conservatory - continUOUS
MR. ASH opens the door and enters. The smell of greenery and a wave of humidity reaches MISS SCARLET and MR. CLAY as they enter the room.
12.
MR. REGINALD ASH
"Pay no attention to the African violets. Our gardener has been away for some time. He'll be back a week before the garden party... though I'm still rather upset about that arrangement."
MR. EDWARD CLAY
"That's understandable. I know a little about gardening. Not a whole lot, but enough. I can probably perk these violets back up."
MR. REGINALD ASH
"Would you mind giving the hedges a trim? At least around the tennis courts? I'm sure you'd prefer a clean, trimmed playing area."
MR. EDWARD CLAY
"Of course, Mr. Ash. I would be happy to help out. I'm trying to start a life here at Blackwell Grange. I'll help out in as many ways as I am able to."
MR. REGINALD ASH
"Don't let Dr. Black hear you say that. He'll turn you into his personal valet if given an inch."
MISS VIVIENNE SCARLET
"Dr. Black is a fair man?"
MR. REGINALD ASH
"You'll be compensated for your worth."
MR. CLAY examines a banana plant leaf.
MIss VIVIENNE SCARLET
"How long have you worked for Dr. Black?"
MR. REGINALD ASH
"I worked for his father."
MISS VIVIENNE SCARLET
"So it has been your entire life."
MR. REGINALD ASH
"I was eighteen when I came into employment at Blackwell Grange."
13.
MISS VIVIENNE SCARLET
"Why have you stayed this long?"
MR. CLAY shoots MISS SCARLET an upset glance.
MR. EDWARD CLAY
"I'm sure it's because this place is as inviting to him as it is to us."
MR. REGINALD ASH
(nodding)
"I have come to call this place home."
MISS SCARLET notices the telescope in the back of the room.
MR. REGINALD ASH
"Professor Plum is an amateur astronomer. I believe he had the telescope aimed at Venus."
MR. EDWARD CLAY
"Goddess of love."
MR. CLAY slips his arms around MISS SCARLET's waist. She smiles and turns to MR. ASH.
MISS VIVIENNE SCARLET
"Where next?"
MR. REGINALD ASH
"I believe some of the guests have settled in the billiard room. Perhaps the tour could end there with some drinks."
MISS VIVIENNE SCARLET
"That sounds heavenly."
INT. Blackwell grange - billiard room - conTINUOUS
MR. THALLO GREEN and SERGEANT BENJAMIN GRAY are in the middle of a game of eight ball. MADAME ROSE BLACK stands by, refereeing the game, and waiting to play against the winner.
COL. MUSTARD and M. BRUNETTE have made their way to the bar.
COL. MUSTARD slams down another shot, putting him into a very drunken frame of mind.
14.
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD
"That bitch disrespects me the same way that boy disrespects me."
MONSIEUR ALPHONSE BRUNETTE
"Just let it go, Mike. They use their words and attitudes because they are physically weak."
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD
"I can fight."
MONSIEUR ALPHONSE BRUNETTE
"You sure can, old chap."
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD
"I'd challenge them both to a duel."
MONSIEUR ALPHONSE BRUNETTE
"And you'd best them both."
At the pool table, MR. GREEN leans down at takes his shot.
MADAME ROSE BLACK
"You've certainly improved since the last time I've seen you play. You are making the corner pockets this time."
MR. THALLO GREEN
"I'm never to old to learn a new trick or two."
Sergeant benjamin gray
"I didn't grow up around a table."
MR. THALLO GREEN
"The mighty Lord Gray doesn't have a billiard room?"
SERGEANT BENJAMIN GRAY
"My father preferred to hunt."
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD
(from the bar)
"That sounds like Lord Gray. He seems the type to enjoying peel back the skins."
SERGEANT BENJAMIN GRAY
"He'd come home with blood up to his elbows."
15.
MADAME ROSE BLACK
"Lord Gray is a pathetic, weak man that relies to heavily on theatrics to make himself tough."
SERGEANT BENJAMIN GRAY
"Yes, and fortunately for him, half the world is weak and scared."
MONSIEUR ALPHONSE BRUNETTE
"Has your father forgiven you for becoming a police officer?"
SERGEANT BENJAMIN GRAY
"No. That's why he's leaving everything to my sister."
M. BRUNETTE pours SGT. GRAY a shot of whiskey and hands it to him.
MONSIEUR ALPHONSE BRUNETTE
"My apologies. I understand all too well the oppression of a father's unrealistic expectations."
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD
"Well drink up and open up. This is Blackwell Grange billiards, after all."
MADAME ROSE BLACK
"This room doesn't become a room of rest until the holidays. We move the pool table to the side and set up the family Christmas tree down here."
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD
(explaining)
"The one in the lounge and library were formal trees for the guests with fake presents. We were always allowed to decorate the one in here."
(chuckling fondly)
"Life may have been miserable most of the year, but around the holidays we lived like kings and queens."
The HALL door opens as MR. ASH lets MISS SCARLET and MR. CLAY into the room.
16.
MR. REGINALD ASH
"I can see everyone else has dipped into the bar."
MR. ASH assumes the role of bartender.
MONSIEUR ALPHONSE BRUNETTE
"The women were tearing into Dr. Orchid. Then Dr. Black came back with John to interrogate further."
MR. REGINALD ASH
"What do we know about her?"
MONSIEUR ALPHONSE BRUNETTE
"Not a whole lot."
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD
"She knows Lawrence Lavender."
MONSIEUR ALPHONSE BRUNETTE
"She knows his name and that he was a shareholder at BGP."
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD
"She knows he lost his shareholder stocks due to blackmail."
MR. REGINALD ASH
"Did she say anything about his untimely death?
MADAME ROSE BLACK
"You mean his murder?"
SERGEANT BENJAMIN GRAY
"No one knows if Lord Lavender was murdered."
MR. THALLO GREEN
"If anyone knows anything it's that sneaky little wife of his. Suzanne."
MR. REGINALD ASH
"Lady Lavender is in communication with Dr. Black and is free of all personal suspicion."
MR. THALLO GREEN
"So says the king."
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD
"I don't trust strangers."
17.
MADAME ROSE BLACK
"No one does."
MISS SCARLET and MR. CLAY hover in the doorway, uncertain if they should leave.
MADAME ROSE BLACK
"Not you, dear. You aren't strangers. You are practically family."
MISS SCARLET gives a slight smile. MR. CLAY puts his arm around her, rubbing her back.
MR. REGINALD ASH
"What can I get the two of you?"
MISS VIVIENNE SCARLET
"Something fruity and sweet with a kick."
MR. EDWARD CLAY
"Just a beer."
MR. GREEN chuckles as MR. ASH places a beer bottle on the bar.
MR. THALLO GREEN
"Rosie, you're gonna have to sit out this next game. I absolutely must play a game with Mr. Just-a-beer."
COL. MUSTARD pats M. BRUNETTE on the shoulder and leaves the room, shaking MR. CLAY's hand as he drunkenly passes by. He leaves the HALL door open as he leaves.
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD
(shouting from the Hall)
"Good night."
MADAME ROSE BLACK
"Miss Scarlet, darts?"
MISS VIVIENNE SCARLET
(shaking her head)
"Oh, no. I'm terrible. I'll hit the wall."
MADAME ROSE BLACK
"Then Mr. Ash will patch it up. The walls are made of burgundy stucco for that reason."
18.
MR. REGINALD ASH
(fixing a cocktail)
"It also allows for that pleasing echo the balls make on the break."
MISS SCARLET walks over to MME ROSE.
MISS VIVIENNE SCARLET
"I suppose I'll give it a try. I haven't played in years. I'm not very good."
MME ROSE hands MISS SCARLET three darts. MR. ASH places the finished cocktail on the edge of the bar.
MR. REGINALD ASH
"Perhaps this will help?"
Thunder crashes outside, verbally startling MISS SCARLET and MR. CLAY.
EVERYONE laughs at the jumpy two.
INT. BLACKWELL GRANGE - kitchen - night
YVETTE comes out of the secret passage to find MRS. BLANCHE WHITE and FRAU OLGA BLOOM waiting in the dark shadows of the KITCHEN.
YVETTE is shaking and crying.
FRAU OLGA BLOOM
"Oh, Yvette..."
MRS. BLANCHE WHITE
"Young lady, I can't be any clearer. Dr. Black is boarding these up and you still disobey..."
FRAU OLGA BLOOM
"Have you no respect for his generosity?"
MRS. BLANCHE WHITE
"Why, Yvette? Why?"
YvETTE
"I'm scared..."
19.
FRAU OLGA BLOOM
"Oh who? There's nothing to be afraid of, Yvette."
YVETTE
"The man from the crypt doesn't know about the secrets in the house."
MRS. WHITE's face turns bone-white.
MRS. BLANCHE WHITE
"Olga, retire for the night. I'm going to handle this on my own."
FRAU OLGA BLOOM
(rolling up her sleeves)
"I have help you straighten this insubordinate brat out."
MRS. BLANCHE WHITE
"Olga, please."
FRAU BLOOM angrily exits into the DINING ROOM.
MRS. BLANCHE WHITE
"Yvette, what do you know about the man?"
YVETTE
(heated; angry; scared)
"The man from the crypt? I know that he's a member of the family. A cousin or a brother or something. I know that he's mentally ill. I know that instead of sending him to an institution, you let the Professor play with his brain like he is a lab rat..."
MRS. BLANCHE WHITE
(quickly; panicked)
"Have you lost your mind? What the hell is wrong with you? Snooping and snooping! Finding out things you shouldn't know. Why? Why are you trying to get yourself killed?"
YVETTE
(crying)
"Mrs. White, I saw the photographs... All the women... those bodies... my mother..."
20.
MRS. BLANCHE WHITE
"His father was a killer, not him! Dr. Black is just... troubled. He's not a killer!"
YVETTE
"Mrs. White..."
MRS. WHITE looks down at the floor.
MRS. BLANCHE WHITE
"You can't be here any more. We have to send you away."
YVETTE
(nodding)
"I'm scared, Mrs. White."
MRS. BLANCHE WHITE
"Go stay in one of the empty guest bedrooms on the third floor. I don't want you in the servant's quarters tonight."
YVETTE nods quietly.
MRS. BLANCHE WHITE
"Go, now. You are finished for the night."
YVETTE rushes off through the HALL door.
MRS. WHITE closes her eyes and folds her hands, whispering -- praying silently. Thunder and lightning interrupt her prayers as the dark KITCHEN is illuminated.
MRS. BLANCHE WHITE
"You can stop eaves-dropping Olga. I know you are just listening on the other side."
MRS. WHITE opens the partition between the KITCHEN and DINING ROOM.
The DINING ROOM is dark and empty.
MRS. WHITE peers into the room through the partition. On the floor, near the side door that leads outside to the SWIMMING POOL, FRAU BLOOM's apron has been carelessly dropped.
21.
INT. Blackwell grange - stables - night
COL. MUSTARD rolls open the heavy wooden door and stumbles in. His is dripping wet from the rain. The foggy, silhouette of BLACKWELL GRANGE can be seen through the open door.
He reaches inside his pocket and pulls out a damp box of matches. After several futile attempts to light a hanging oil lamp, he gives up.
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD
(frustrated)
"Are you in here or not?"
There is no response.
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD
"It's late, I'm drunk, I'm tired, and I'm now very wet."
There is no response.
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD
"Well, I suppose I waited too late, or I'm too early. Next time give your little messenger a more specific time."
There is no response.
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD
"I'm leaving now. Find me in the morning. Or don't. I really don't care."
COL. MUSTARD turns towards the door and takes a breath before stepping out into the rain.
HERR KLAUS GOLD strikes a match and lights the oil lamp.
HERR KLAUS gOLD
"Colonel?"
COL. MUSTARD stops and turns back to re-enter the STABLES.
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD
"You've got a lot of nerve showing up here."
22.
HERR KLAUS GOLD
"Hugh Black is going to die. And you are going to make that happen."
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD
"Not a chance."
HERR KLAUS GOLD
"Oh, but you will. You sweet, precious Lorraine died at his hands."
COL. MUSTARD doesn't respond, move, flinch, or react.
HERR KLAUS GOLD
"He aged himself up to look like his father. He slaughtered those women alongside Dr. Raven, Lord Gray, and Monsieur Brunette. Go ask them for their sides of the story. Go ask that little french maid what was inside the secret passageway. Go find out the truth."
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD
"You are trying to start a war."
HERR KLAUS GOLD
"I'm bringing the end to decades of imbalance where a family of murderers remains unpunished."
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD
"They aren't like that anymore."
HERR KLAUS GOLD
"Bullshit. They just haven't had anyone to kill since Samuel and Margaret."
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD
"Samuel and Margaret aren't dead."
HERR KLAUS GOLD
"I know that. I'm referring to all the people that had to die in order for them to disappear. A whole caravan of vacationing Americans on safari. Gunned down. I was there Colonel. I was standing beside Prince Azure when you lead those men to the caravan. We watched as the screams turned to silence."
23.
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD
(angrily)
"Shut up!"
HERR KLAUS GOLD
"Do you remember the screams, Colonel? Those helpless people as your bullets tore through their flesh? All under the orders of higher men..."
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD
"Enough!"
HERR KLAUS GOLD
"Hugh Black chose to kill. You had to."
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD
"I won't entertain this."
COL. MUSTARD turns his back and exits into the rain.
HERR KLAUS GOLD
(shouting out to him)
"It's going to eat you alive, Colonel. One day they will start killing again. The bodies will pile up and you'll be in that pile. Just a number in a great list of deaths."
COL. MUSTARD stops in the rain and turns to face him.
COLONEL MICHAEL MUSTARD
(shouting back)
"And you'll be there in the pile beside me."
EXT. BLACKWELL GRANGE - SWIMMING POOL - CONTINUOUS
MRS. WHITE steps out onto the veranda around the SWIMMING POOL. The concrete is flooded up to her ankles. The grass around the area is soggy, muddy, and swollen.
MRS. WHITE eyes slowly adjust through the rain and darkness.
MRS. BLANCHE WHITE
(gasping; choking up)
"Oh... Oh no..."
24.
In the overflowing SWIMMING POOL, in the center, FRAU OLGA BLOOM is floating face first.
From the POOL HOUSE nearby, BEN BLACK watches, trembling, laughing, and crying psychotically.
END OF EPISODE #8
